HERBERT (HERB) HALPRIN It is with sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, Herb Halprin, at the age of 86 years old. Herb is predeceased by his parents, Irving and Sadie Halprin, his first wife Myra, his brothers Tom Halprin and Len Halprin, and his son Marty in February of 2013. Herb leaves to mourn his sons Irving (Dianne), Philip (Brenda), his grandchildren Mathew (Beta), Stephanie (Brian), Joshua, Nathan, Kerry and Melanie. Herb also leaves to mourn his great-grandchildren Zander, Levi and Sadie, as well as, his second wife Susan Garfield. Herb was born in 1928 as the second son of Sadie and Irving Halprin. He lived in Winnipeg's North End. Herb married Myra Resnick on January 4, 1950. Together they raised their family Marty, Irv and Philip. He loved his family unconditionally. Throughout his married life Herb and Myra loved to travel, with their many trips to Mexico and abroad. Tennis and bridge were also Herb's passions. Herb was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, friend, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad was the manager of the family business, Irvin's Department store on Osborne Street for many years until 1968 after which he became the partner, then owner of a vending machine company. His final passion was met there. Herb loved to tinker. He was soon an expert at the intricate workings of every machine. Herb passed on his expert knowledge to his three sons who learned his skills quickly. Herb had a reputation as an honourable, and hard working man. He had a feeling of fairness, and would always lend assistance to people in need. Herb became a widower at the age of 76 after 54 years of marriage to Myra. After several years Herb remarried Susan Garfield. They had happy years together, playing bridge, tennis, as well as some travelling. Herb lived a wonderful, happy and full life . A few years ago he became sick. We would like everyone to remember the man he was. Herb was a good, honest, hardworking family man and he will be forever remembered and missed by all of those who loved him. Funeral services were held on July 29, 2014 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue.
