Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS MCHARDY COCKBURN October 20, 1930 - August 5, 2014 Suddenly on August 5, 2014, Thomas (Tom) McHardy Cockburn passed away at his home in Gimli. Tom is survived by his three daughters Susie (Zeke) Secord, Louise Banks (Adrien Gay), and Anita (Don) Jacques; eight grandchildren Derek (Janalee ), Curtis, and Joey Christianson; Sean, Trevor, and Mandy Banks; and Christiane and Chantal Jacques; nine great-grandchildren; his sister Margaret (Bryan) of France, relatives in Scotland, and many friends including his special friend Phyllis. Tom was born in Aberdeen, Scotland where his passion for a nautical life began, during his teens, as a Ship's Carpenter Apprentice. He came to Canada at the young age of 18 where he began a long list of careers including working for the Hudson's Bay Company in the fur trade, the CNR, as a Commercial Fisherman off the West Coast, Aquatic Director with the YMCA and YMHA's, and later as a Power Engineer. He was happiest while living near the water and as such spent his last few years living in Gimli where he was able to enjoy his passion for sailing. A private service in celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
