ROALD K BUVIK Roald Kermit Hartvick Buvik was born at Kandahar, SK on March 6, 1929 to parents Jens and Stella. He died in July, 2014. In 1950 he, his parents and sister Selma settled in Saskatoon. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and received a B. Comm. majoring in accounting. After his father died in 1960, Roald and his mother moved to Winnipeg to be nearer Stella's daughters Judith Schaitel and Selma Domier. Roald was employed as an accountant by several firms, and also taught business related subjects in Carberry, MB and Tec Voc High School in Winnipeg. Upon retirement he continued financial accounting on his own. Roald enjoyed golfing and for many years was a member at Niakwa Country Club. He was interested in his Norwegian roots. In 1978 he accompanied Selma and Kenneth Domier to Europe, travelling through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway. In Norway he met a number of cousins and visited the church where his father was baptized and confirmed. Roald was a member of the Norwegian Canadian Club for many years and enrolled in Norwegian classes. Roald was predeceased by twin sisters Signe and Sigrid in 1920, father Jens in 1960, mother Stella in 1976, brother Douglas in 1993, sister Judith in 1998, and sister Selma in 1999. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, and extended family. A celebration of his life will be held at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 764 Erin Street in Winnipeg, August 18, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
