JERRY FRANKLIN WESHNOWESKI
Date of Passing: Aug 13, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJERRY FRANKLIN WESHNOWESKI With sorrow in our hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Jerry, on August 13, 2014, age 67 years, after a brief but courageous journey with ALS. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara; treasured daughter Kelsey; siblings; Monty Szakacs (Karen), Frances Kravitz, Marjorie Wood (Keith), Carl Weshnoweski (Linda), Cathy Arnason and Bev Arden (Jack) and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by infant son Scott, parents Frank Weshnoweski, Joe and Violet Szakacs, brothers- in-law John Kravitz and Kurt Arnason. Jerry grew up on a farm near Winnipeg Beach where he learned to love the outdoors and nature. After moving to Winnipeg, he began his work in Radiology at Health Sciences Centre which spanned 40 years until his retirement in 2012. He seemed to know everyone there. He enjoyed sports including baseball, curling, camping and fishing but, as we all know, his greatest hobby was birding. He so enjoyed each outing with fellow birders and his knowledge will be missed by many people. Jerry's diagnosis came just 3 short months ago. He remained calm, accepting and cheerful even when it became impossible to hold his binoculars or tend to the tomatoes. He never said "why me?" but completely trusted in God's plan. Our heartfelt thanks to Greg Frejek for his friendship and continual help, to Rick Schindel for the enjoyable coffee times, and to Palliative Care nurse Ann and ALS Manitoba. A service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 1:00 p.m. at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Crescent. Donations to ALS Society, 493 Madison Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 1J2 are deeply appreciated. Rest in God's hands Jerry. Under His wings you will find refuge. Psalm 91:4. I am very sad to hear of Jerry's passing. We both worked in the Radiology Dept. at HSC for many years. He once told me that whenever he was asked when he was going to retire, he would jokingly reply that he couldn't go because I had been there just as long, and I was still there. Jerry was a kind-hearted person, and you never heard him complain. My deepest condolences to Barb and Kelsey. - Posted by: Cathy Erickson (co-worker in Radiology for many years) on: Sep 02, 2014

I had the extreme pleasure of working with Jerry on the sidelines, looking after critically ill patients. As radiology and ICU kind of go hand in hand, our paths crossed frequently over the years. I remember Jerry as a kind, helpful, always professional empathetic person, who placed his patients comfort and dignity above all else. He was a wonderful role model for his peers and will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Peg Holt (Colleague. Retired RN who worked in ICU's at HSC for over 40 years.) on: Aug 16, 2014
