Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANGELITA ESTEBAN BUNDOC MADURO Passed on: August 11, 2014 Peacefully on the morning of Monday, August 11, 2014, Angelita Esteban Bundoc Maduro passed away in Fredericton, New Brunswick at the age of 75. She had been in Fredericton attending the Annual National Convention of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. Left to cherish Angelita's memory is her son Virgilio Joseph Maduro Jr., sister Socorro Rarama, niece Shelly and husband Chris Hutton, nephews Oscar Jr. and Rex Rarama, and brother Dr. Norberto Bundoc. She was predeceased by Virgilio Maduro Sr., her brothers Dominador and Nollie Bundoc, and her sister Carmelita Bundoc Baldove. Angelita was born on March 11, 1939, in Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She was the third of six children born to Lope and Laureana Bundoc. Also affectionately called Heling (or Helen) and later Angie by her friends and family, she attended Cuyapo Elementary School and later Saint Pius X Institute for High School. Upon graduation, she enrolled at the College of Nursing, Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines graduating in 1960. She went on to attend Law School at Far Eastern University for two years while she worked part-time at the Veteran's Hospital in Manila. Heling's desire to travel and seek opportunities abroad led her to the Netherlands in 1966 as part of the Gendringen Group of Philippine Garment workers where she worked at Berghaus Clothing Manufacturing in Gendringen. Her motivation to travel continued as she applied and was accepted for an Immigrant Visa at the Canadian Embassy, The Hague Netherlands. She arrived in Winnipeg in 1969 and worked at Frederickson Nursing Home while attending Red River Community College where she graduated from the Midwifery Program in 1973. She then transferred to the Health Sciences Centre Medical Rehabilitation Department where she worked as an Occupational Therapist Assistant for 32 years until her retirement in 2005 from the Health Action Centre. Angie gave very generously of her time and talent and always was passionate about making a difference. Her spirit of volunteering and community service continued over the years with many different organizations well into her retirement years. As a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish, Christian values permeated every activity of her life. She belonged to The Catholic Women's League of Canada and served in various executive positions at the local, diocesan, and provincial levels. She sang in the parish choir and the archdiocesan choir. Angie taught catechism at both St. Peter's Church and St. Mary's Cathedral. Her involvement in other organizations included Scouts Canada, St. John Ambulance, Holy Family Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary, Saint Anthony Fraternity of the worldwide Secular Franciscan Order, Age and Opportunity West End Seniors Centre. She also served on the board of directors and/or executive for various organizations including Age and Opportunity, Philippine Association of Manitoba, Immigrant Women Association of Manitoba, Downtown Senior Resource Council, Broadway Senior Resource Council, and Alpha House Project Inc. As passionate and involved as Angie was in community activities, she was even more a devoted and loving mother whose support, care and concern for her son Virgilio never wavered. She was recently bestowed the honour of being selected Mother of the Year for 2014 by the Original Filipino Seniors Association of Manitoba. Those who knew Angie remember also her talented sewing skills. She herself made many of the handsome clothes that her son Virgilio wore throughout his childhood. She made her own gowns and dresses which were worn during Folklorama and other formal occasions. She loved dancing and was also a very good bowler who enjoyed the company of the Mixed Fun Retirement League at St. James Lanes on Wednesday mornings. Angie touched the lives of so many people. While we mourn her passing, we also thank God for the great gift she was to all of us who were privileged to have known and loved her. Lamay will be held from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Avenue. Rite of Committal to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the many organizations Angelita was involved in or to a charity of one's own choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Angelita was one of those women who once you met her, you never forgot her. She was always a delight to visit with and it showed in her smiling face as she visited the many friends who always flocked around her no matter if she was at her home parish or at a CWL convention far away. Virgil and family, she will be missed by so many people, but especially by you. My husband, Tom Bailey, and I also had a last visit and picture taken at Folklorama and we wished her a safe trip to New Brunswick. Little did we know that in a few days God had a much bigger voyage planned for her. Our sincere condolences and sympathy to you. May she rest in peace. I have known Angelita since the 1980s, when I came to work at H.S.C. She has always been one ~classy lady~. Angie has always been a top notch dresser, incredible cook and baker, and committed volunteer. She has been a great role model to me and will never be forgotten! It has been a privilege to work with her, know her and to volunteer with her. - Posted by: Val Stanowki (Former co-worker, fellow DSRC Board Member & Friend) on: Aug 24, 2014

There is so much to say of Angelita. I can not imagine St. Mary Cathedral without her. She was a fixture since I started attending mass there. I was amazed at how well she could do her hair up on her own. The dresses she made. She was always there. Teaching cathechism, luncheons, events, singing in the choir. She will be missed. My condolences to Vergilio and the rest of her family. Hugs to you all. - Posted by: Mary Lou Bourgeois (friend) on: Aug 22, 2014

Rest in Peace, Angelita. My heartfelt condolences to Virgilio and family. May God give you comfort and strength during this time of sorrow. The last time I spoke with Angelita was August 6th at the Nayong Filipino Folklorama Pavilion. She wanted to have a picture with me, with the Banawe Rice Terraces background, and she was wearing that beautiful red dress! Amazing! That was a very special moment for me together with Angelita. I will always remember her as a very compassionate lady. May your soul, Angie, and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen. - Posted by: Rev. I would like to offer my sincere heartfelt condolences to Angelita's son and her family. I met Angelita on the plane going to CWL Fredericton Convention, she sat beside me on the plane and shared her stories. She spoke of her son Virgilio so proudly and loving, what he accomplished in life and how proud he made her, she shared her photos and was so sweet when she pulled her photo album from her bag. I commented on her beautiful dress and she replied I am going to CWL where it's wonderful to be part of. She asked me questions, what work I did and why I was going. I mentioned I was displaying books for Novalis she said, I will be sure to come to see you at Novalis tables and also love to see me during the conference. I know her spirit is lifted and in a good place and wishing you to hold on to good memories as in the 2 and half hours I spend with Angelita she left me with good memories. The shock that reverberated through the Cathedral when Fr. Geoff Angeles announced her death following this morning's 9:30 Mass, where she was an usher, was like an earthquake. Angelita will always be remembered as the woman who brewed and served the coffee after Mass, something many seemed to take for granted. My buddy Eddie remarked "she was sitting here...in spirit". God's blessings on her family and thanks for your contribution to the community. - Posted by: David Imrie (Parishioner, Lector - St.Mary's Cathedral ) on: Aug 17, 2014
