Born: Mar 18, 1933
Date of Passing: Aug 11, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN KELL With sad hearts we report the passing of John Alan Kell at 82 years old. John was born March 18, 1933, the youngest of three brothers to the union of Wilfrid and Myrtle Kell in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up in River Heights and made lifelong friends there. John received his formal education at the University of Manitoba and graduated with a degree in Commerce. He spent his career working for The Investors Group where he rose through the ranks to Chief Trader. Through those years John's passion was in spending time with his family and his Golden Retrievers at the cottage in Minaki. Those days left John with wonderful memories and long lasting joy. When John retired he travelled extensively all over the world until the time came for him to remain in Winnipeg. He moved into the Canoe Club where he made many new friends and neighbours. He very much enjoyed their company as they did his. During this time he also served as a respected grandfather figure to Jeff, Peyton and Tammy. John departed this life in his home at the Canoe Club on Monday August 11, 2014 after a five month battle with cancer. His parents and brothers Wilfrid and Stan predeceased him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his good friend of 23 years, Sonny Umanoff of Miami FL, his loving son, Gord Kell (Tricia), and his daughter Marcia Parker (Barry) of Toronto, sister-in-law Ruth, nieces Sharda and Lora Lee along with "cousin" Marie and their extended families. Throughout John's life he had an unselfish nature about him that built lifelong bonds with all of his family and friends - he will be sadly missed by all. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at palliative care, Lynn Fineman of Successful Aging, Esther and her staff of home care workers, [Richard, Emile, Cristy] and Ricardo. The over and above care they provided to John was phenomenal and so much appreciated. John will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. He has his own special niche there where he can keep his eye on all of us. Arrangements are to follow and will be announced in this paper. Rover and Gypsy are waiting for you Dad.

John was a font of wit and wisdom. He will be remembered and my condolences to Sonnie, keep on strong! I will remember John's stories as well as his wealth of Latin phrases. One thing, I remember when my partner Denise and John's Sonny were both out of town and John and I would meet to play cribbage and while away the lonely time without our ladies. I thought John would be an easy crib mark, but he ended up thrashing me and was two games up! Will miss you John and am looking forward to the rematch. - Posted by: Jimmyjames graham (Second cousin - John told me I had once been removed) on: Aug 19, 2014

My condolences to Sonnie, love you so much! John was a great man...he will never be forgotten! We had so much fun on our Tuesday 'Rib Nights' at the Norwood Hotel! The man could tell a story like no other, we always had achin' sides from laughing! This continued in the hospital..he had the most positive outlook...and the best stories! We shared many good times and he will remain with us always! Xo - Posted by: Laura lee Graham (Second cousin (once removed..according to John)) on: Aug 18, 2014

We wish to send our condolences to Sonnie, Uncle John's partner of many, many years and to Gordon and his family. Uncle John's Aunt Ruth(Kell)will miss talking to her nephew over the phone. My sister, Sharda, myself and his Aunt Ruth (our mother) were all so glad that we all had had a last talk with Uncle John in person at the beginning of July. It was very good to hear him tell us about his excursions in his wheelchair at the hand of his care aide who was so good to Uncle John. Even though towards his last days we did not get to talk to him in person we were kept well informed by Sonnie for which we are truly grateful. We will miss our little chats but I know that he will be watching over all of us from now on. Loralee & Guy Lafortune - Posted by: Loralee Lafortune (Neice) on: Aug 16, 2014
