Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERMAN DOERKSEN July 28, 1914 August 19, 2014 On August 19, 2014, just a few weeks after celebrating his 100th year of life, Herman Doerksen passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, MB. He is survived by his four sons: Ken (Irmgard), Don (Debby), Ian (Velma), and Wayne (Bryan McDermott) of Anderson, SC, as well as grandchildren Glenn (Caralee) Doerksen, children Connor, Paige, Chad of Minneapolis; Heather Karpiak, children Collin, Dain, (father, Robert); Jeffrey (Hali) Doerksen, children Delaney, Layla; Kevin Doerksen; Steven (Leanne) Doerksen; and Mark Doerksen, all of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his sister Sarah Schmidt of Calgary, AB. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret (nee Krahn), his daughter Gwendolyn Margaret, and by his siblings Mary, Arnold, John, Jacob, and Henry. He was born to Jacob and Helena Doerksen on July 28, 1914 on their Langham, SK farm home, where he was raised. He married Margaret Krahn, on July 26, 1939, in Langham, SK, and they moved to Winnipeg, MB, where they raised four sons: Kenneth, Donald, Ian, and Wayne. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 35 years, and also had a full-time career as a piano technician. He and Margaret were very involved with Christian teaching and music, such as their strong involvement with the Christian Fellowship Chapel and Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church. They enjoyed travelling to distant locations such as Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, and a memorable voyage to the Holy Land. Sadly, after their last trip together, to Hawaii, Margaret passed away in April 1984. He continued to live a full and healthy life as he transitioned into eventual full-time retirement, travelling and enjoying time with his family, and kept good health until very near the end. Herman Doerksen was always a man of great strength of faith, spirit, character, and values. He will be greatly missed by many people who loved him and whose lives he blessed throughout his lifetime. But we know that he is now exulting in the arms of his Saviour and for that we can rejoice. Funeral service will be on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street with viewing at 10:00 a.m. A reception will be held following the service, afterwhich there will be a private interment. Donations can be made in Herman Doerksen's name to the Mennonite Central Committee.

As a child I attended the country church which had been pastored by your grandfather, and I admired your Aunt Sarah and her musical talents. - Posted by: Lois Reimer (I think my parents were contemporaries, also having farmed in Langham, moved to MB) on: Sep 13, 2014
