DEBORAH MAY TAYLOR Sadly and unexpectedly, our mother, grandmother, friend, colleague and mentor Deborah Taylor passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Winnipeg. Growing up in Calgary, Alberta Deb was one of eight children to her parents Marion Nason and Clyde Stickley. She was very well loved by her surviving family including her son Shane, his wife Natasha and grandchildren Shayna, Adrienna and Tyler; Deb's two brothers Danny and Robin; many nieces and nephews including Lori as well as her long-time friends June Therrien and Peter Grozdanovic. She was predeceased by both parents; as well as her sisters Judy and Brenda and brothers Greg, Clyde and Bradley. Deb was a formidable woman who was passionate about gymnastics and animals with a special love for pug dogs and animals in need. She coached artistic gymnastics for most of her life, originally in Calgary and since the mid-1990s in Winnipeg at Springers Gymnastics Club. Over the years Deb became a beloved and respected cornerstone of the gymnastics community and was an inspiration to many athletes and coaches. She was honoured in 2012 as a woman of outstanding leadership in Canada by The International Women's Leadership Association. Being the recreational director at Springers for many years, Deb's job title could just as well have read "heart and soul of Springers". She was committed fully to ensuring the club was the best possible place for athletes to train and learn, coaches to work and parents to watch proudly as these young athletes grew up. From cleaning up the "spills" in the gym, which caused many others to speedily evacuate the area, to ensuring that there was always a small handful of candy as a special thank you to a coach, or as a job well done reward to an athlete Deb was always pouring out her heart to others. Deb's family was huge she touched the lives of so many we will all miss her dearly. Cremation has taken place and Shane will ensure his Mom makes her long planned trip to Disneyland where her ashes will be scattered. A celebration of Deb's life is being planned for September. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Deb's memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665, in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

  • My family and I were shocked to hear the news of Deb's passing. Her love and passion for the these kids and what they did or what they were capable of was endless. Everyone who has trained at Springers knew Deb and it it easy for us all to remember one person but Deb knew everyone!!! If your child was in Springer she knew them by name and even the classes they were taking. That shows that she cared for each and every one of these kids as if they were her own, she loved them all! Deb, you will be missed but never forgotten. Our most sincere condolences go out to her family and all those who loved her. God Bless you all and even though she is not here anymore she will live on forever in so many hearts and memories. - Posted by: Sheri Jarman (Springers Mom) on: Oct 03, 2014

  • I was so sorry to hear about Deb's passing. I'll always be grateful to her for suggesting that I take the trampoline class with my kids even though I was over 40. Her attitude was 'why not?' It added so much fun to my life. - Posted by: Beth Kettner (gymnastics student and mom) on: Aug 27, 2014

  • I have known Debbie since she was 12 years old. I married her brother Greg in 1969 and since that time we became more like sisters then in-laws. We shared many good times and some sorrows but through all of it Debbie always retained her humour and laughter. She had a heart of gold and would do anything she could to help anyone. Debbie was a strong woman and will always be in my thoughts and memories; Love you Deb - Posted by: Linda Stickley (Sister inlaw/friend) on: Aug 23, 2014
