BARRY DOUGLAS FARGEY With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Barry Douglas Fargey on August 13, 2014 at Strickland Lake, near Dawson City, in the Yukon. Barry is survived by his father, Jim Fargey of Carman, MB, his sister Gerrie (Glenn) of Winnipeg, his brother Ken (Liliane) of Carman, MB, his sister Diane (Mike) of Oshawa, ON, and his Uncle John and Aunt Gail Fargey, Mississauga, ON, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends, both in Winnipeg and Dawson. Barry was predeceased by his mother, May Fargey, in 2003. Barry was raised in Norwood where he attended Nordale Elementary School and Nelson MacIntyre Collegiate. Shortly after high school Barry headed West eventually settling in Dawson, where he worked for Parks Canada. In Dawson, Barry was the driving force behind the Sunnydale Dogsled Race, the Percy Dewolfe Sled Dog Race, as well as a generous supporter/advocate of the Dawson's Women's Shelter and Conservation Klondike Society. He was a co-founder of the Humane Society of Dawson. His interests included being Dawson's #1 baseball fan for over 30 years. He was a thoughtful and avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, birdwatching, his lake, and dogmushing. Barry was a free spirit with a larger than life personality. He was acquainted with literally everyone that lived in Dawson, and many of those people counted themselves as friends. "It is hard to find someone that doesn't have a story or anecdote, mostly humorous, involving Barry." Cremation has taken place with ashes to be scattered in his beloved Strickland Lake and the Yukon River. The family will have a private celebration of Barry's life. If friends so desire donations made be made to the Humane Society, P.O. Box 1143, Dawson City, YT Y0B 1G0.
