Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH BERARD (HALAIKO) It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, bopchi, Elizabeth Berard at her residence on August 21, 2014. Elizabeth also known as Liz leaves to mourn her passing her children, Linda (Paul) and Brad (Deb), her partner Dirk, her sisters Elsie Schmidt and Sally Leskinen and her eight precious grandchildren, Denise, Jean, Valerie, Aline, Johnathan, Cameron, Donovan and Alissa. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was predeceased by her first husband Marcel Berard, her parents Anna and Karl Halaiko and sister Joan Naswall. Born in Winnipeg on April 5, 1933 she grew up in Pine Falls, MB. She loved to knit as her grandchildren can attest as they all had beautiful sweaters while growing up. She sewed most of the clothes for herself and her children when they were all younger. Liz was an avid curler, golfer and bowler, as many of her winnings were placed all over in her home. Liz worked at the The Bay for 17 years after which time she moved with Dirk to Northern communities to follow his work. She loved to travel and managed to visit many places throughout the years. Her favourite was Barbados where she went for 14 years. A special thank you to Seine River Retirement Residence for making her life very enjoyable for the last few years. A special thank you to Nurse Carol for all her support. Thank you to Palliative/home care for their care the last couple of months. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Manitoba Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

Dirk and family, So sorry to hear of Liz's passing. We know how much you and Liz enjoyed your visits to Barbados, sea baths, Holetown Festival, police band concerts etc. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of your bereavement. Aunt Liz, was a wonderful woman, whom enjoyed life to the fullest. My thoughts of all the great childhood visits, brings special memories to me of laughter and fun with Liz and my cousins. My thoughts are with all those that will miss her. She has a special place in my heart. My mom "Sally" will miss her, happy phone calls. So sorry to hear of Liz's passing (Wpg friend's email). I never got to see their new home which Liz said she loved and was anxious for me to see (which was going to be this Oct. when I came to Wpg.!)
