GORDON MIKOLIEW 1927 2014 With heartfelt sadness, Gordon's family wishes to announce his passing at the age of 87, during the wee hours of August 28 after a nine month battle from a massive stroke. Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his beloved wife and sweetheart Cecelia of 62 years. His children Arlene (Warren) Omichinski, Pat (John) Kisiloski, Judy (Don) Kamaraus, and Glen (Cheryl) Mikoliew. Grandchildren Joel, Trudy, Kevin, Jessica, Kyle, Kurtis, and Kaitlyn. Great grandchildren Alexis, Jeremy, Kody, and Taylor. They always brought a twinkle to his eyes, huge smile and whom he loved to tease. Also his brother Stan and family. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Antonia, sisters Stella and Nettie, and many brothers in-law and sisters in-law. Gordon worked hard all of his life from a young age on the farm to his retirement in 1986. His jobs included the Winnipeg Stock Yards, North Star Oil, Seven Sisters Dam, bush camps, farming and his most rewarding job as head custodian of CFS Beausejour for 24 years where he earned the respect and admiration of the military and civilian staff throughout those years. Gordons passions included anything to do with nature, picking every kind of berry and mushroom to bring home for Cec to preserve. He had an amazing green thumb most recognizable by the spruce tree forest he planted by hand around our homestead in Green Oak, and his awesome asparagus patch. He was very athletic and sporty which included baseball, volleyball, lawn darts, bowling, horseshoes, ping pong, shuffleboard, walking and swimming. He loved a challenge and was extremely hard to beat at most of these! And oh, how he loved to dance! Gordon was very generous as most of the money he made from rolling newspapers, selling asparagus and beer can collecting was donated to local charities. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Beausejour Legion for many years and a sponsor of Youth Bowling. Gordon has a heart of gold, has many longtime friends from his past years in Green Oak and his present friends and neighbours in and around Beausejour. We think almost everyone around Beausejour knew who dad was as he was seen almost daily making his walking rounds around and through Beausejour through all types of weather. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to joke around and pull toes! He loved to play harmonica much to the delight of his neighbours at Bourgoyne Station and cut his first CD at the age of 83! Thank you to Dr. Zeiller for his many years of care and more recently Dr. Partyka and the Beausejour Hospital staff "friends". Our family is so grateful for your care and compassion throughout this very difficult time. In Gordons memory, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Beausejour Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of choice. A Memorial Service will be held at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour on Wednesday, September 3 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at St. Demetrius Cemetery. Rest in peace Gordon, our beloved husband, dad, grampa, great-grampa and friend. Your suffering is over and your walk is endless now!
