I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Murray. I understand that he has had a difficult, trying life experience over the last number of years, and that is very sad that such a good person would experience such a difficult time in his life. Murray was my teacher at Hastings, and he was such a passionate, expressive person and that made him my favourite teacher. He had the ability to get along with all students no matter what their personality and background, as he could relate to all students in a way that would make sense to them. I just heard of his passing yesterday, and unfortunately did not at ten his funeral. I hope that all that were close to him take comfort in knowing that he has moved on to a better place. We only were in the company of Murray and Marilyn twice, and only for a few hours; however, both of them are the type of people you wish you had been friends with for decades. We know Marilyn will miss her Murray, but we also know that Marilyn has two wonderful men, her and Murray's sons, to be there for her. May she find the strength to forge ahead with the rest if her life, for many, many years. My sincere Condolences to his wife Marilyn, sons Mark & Michael for Murray's passing. I've been Murray's Care giver for almost 3 years and with those years no dull moments, his love of life is tremendous, he was so smart, intelligent teacher. I've learned so much from him. So sorry I wasn't able to say goodbye for the last time. Rest in peace Murray! - Posted by: Blesilda Imperio (Former Caregiver (homecare)) on: Sep 05, 2014

My sincere condolences go out to Marilyn, Mark & Michael Golub on the passing of your husband and father. I taught Junior High with Murray at Hastings through out the 70's. Murray was an upbeat person, always full of energy and loved the interaction with his students. He brought life into the staffroom with his witty 'one-liners'. He was much more than just a gifted educator, Murray's unselfish character and his almost unbelievable positive attitude during his life long uphill battle with diabetes, earned him the deepest respect from all who knew him. I feel fortunate to have had Murray as a friend and remember his big smiles during the times when Lorne Barske and myself would visit him in the hospital, even while he was recovering from brutal surgery. Murray will be missed by his many past students, colleagues and associates, and especially his family. - Posted by: Wayne Enns (teacher colleague) on: Aug 31, 2014

Sending thoughts and prayers to Mr. Golub's family. Mr. Golub had a way of teaching his students that stuck with them for years to come! 15 years later I remember his passion for teaching, lapidary class, reading, English and that took pride in what he did. Excellent teacher and will be greatly missed! To his family and loved ones; may your memories of him, and the fact that he taught and helped shape so many in his life, bring you comfort at this difficult time. - Posted by: Maria Roy (Former student (Lavallee a school)) on: Aug 30, 2014

I remember Murray's sense of humour and his caring for his students as individuals. We both taught at Hastings Junior High in the '60's. - Posted by: Victoria Olchowecki (colleague and friend) on: Aug 30, 2014

Hands down the most influential person in my youth. My entire Family loved Mr. Golub while my brother and I attended Lavallee in the early 1990's. You taught us all how to appreciate the Arts and encouraged us to be the best people we could be. Thank you for your passion for teaching, your unconditional guidance and all of the inspiration a Young Teen could have ever asked for. You will forever be remembered. - Posted by: Robert Burnett (Rob Hamill) (Former student) on: Aug 29, 2014

I remember Murray always having such a cheerful disposition-a big smile. We attended St. John's High School together. We both were in the Sunday morning Winnipeg Senior Men's 5 pin bowling league (all the top 5 pin bowlers bowled in this league) at CoMo Lanes and on the same team-Bill Shore's "Classic Billiards". When I think back, I believe we were within five points of each other in our bowling averages and these averages were in the low 200's. We lost contact after leaving bowling and I saw him again at the St. John's re-union where I took several pics of the graduating year and sent him the pics. Sorry to see you go and I will always remember your smile. - Posted by: colin dederick (high school and senior men's bowling teamate) on: Aug 29, 2014

Always will remember how he loved Edgar Allan Poe. Also how he used to staple the boys baseball caps to the wall when they got caught wearing them in class. He will always have a place in my heart.
