Ron gave everything to sports in our little community. He coached girls softball, and I believe they won provincial championships. He was a great curler, and overall athletic ambassador to growing children in La Salle. We had moved to the area from Toronto, and I found it very challenging to fill his shoes. We're back in the area for a wedding, and it was mentioned that Ron had passed away. We got a chance to know him just a little, as well as Daniel, who worked at the Credit Union at the time, and I wish we had made more of an effort to get to know them better. Our best to his family. - Posted by: Doug Rouse (Replaced Ron as the sports director, for the La Salle comunity centre, back in 1994.) on: Jan 31, 2015

Mr. Lagace will always be one of my favourite teachers that I've ever had. He was always supportive and funny. He never let anybody feel left out or abandoned. I loved that it didn't matter about a curriculum, all he cared about was that you were moving and having fun, what a gym class in elementary school should be. Easily one of the greatest teachers to ever be at our school. I can't believe he's gone. You will be missed, but never forgotten. - Posted by: Kirstie h (Student) on: Oct 01, 2014

Leggy is one of the most memorable & best teachers I had in elementary school. He was funny, positive & always full of ENERGY! Gym class was never boring! After elementary school (in my late teens), I had the opportunity & luck to be reunited with Leggy when he was one of our softball coaches in the Maples. That was a blast! He was still full of energy & kept us on our toes with his crazy complex batting signals! It was also a pleasure to get to know his family (Chantal played softball with us ever so briefly!) & see the personal side of him. My deepest condolences to his family. The world needs more people like M. Lagace......he just emanated positivity & energy! It was an honour to have had him in my life. - Posted by: Nicole Araujo (nee Deaust) (Former student at Ecole H.C. Avery) on: Sep 13, 2014

Mr. Lagace was the kind of teacher who left a long term positive impression with each of his students. He made sure his students had the positive support and confidence from him. No matter how good you were in gym class, he made sure you were encouraged 100% so you would try your hardest in the activities. I still vaguely remember him talking to us in our first gym class in 1972/73. He made us all laugh while we sat on line that circled the center of the gym. He made us all feel at ease and he gained our respect whenever he spoke to us. I miss those days of floor hockey in the gym during the lunch hour (especially how he purposely let you get by him on a breakaway). My sincerest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Gurdeep Bharaj (Student - Parc La Salle) on: Sep 08, 2014

Deepest condolences to Mariette, Chantal, Reji, Dan and familes. As you can see by the rest of the guest book, Ron was truly loved and respected in the community. He will be greatly missed. Reading the condolences brought back many fond memories of Ron. I remembered that he was an excellent coach and always had such a wonderful smile but I had forgotten about the hand signals and nicknames for fastball. Always such a joker, but always so kind. Mr. Lagacé is always the first person that comes to my mind when I think about my time at Ile-des-Chenes School. I can still remember his incredible positivity, the funny nicknames he had for each of his students and the many times he was my pseudo-dentist. He was a huge influence on the childhoods of many students including myself, and he motivated people to do things they probably would never have thought to do. I think that we were all very lucky to have had him in our lives. My sympathy goes out to his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace Mr. Lagacé. - Posted by: Lainie Vajdl (Student ) on: Sep 05, 2014

My deepest sympathies to the family on the lost of a great man. I remember when Ron taught my kids at St Adolphe School in the 90s. The year that he decided to change schools, I took him out for lunch at the Picn'Nic Restaurant. My kids, along with some other students from the school showed up at the restaurant to "check up on us". We will miss you Ron and by looking at all the tributes, you touched the lives of many students. RIP Chico till we meet again! - Posted by: Darlene Sorin (Friend/Teacher to my kids) on: Sep 05, 2014

It was a privilege and a pleasure to know and to teach with Ron. He was a dedicated educator who loved his students and he always made each and everyone of them feel special. My daughter Heather was privileged to have been in his gym class at Parc La Salle in St. Norbert and she speaks so highly of Ron these many years later. Ron was surrounded by positive energy which was infectious and anyone having a bad day would soon be smiling after a few minutes in his presence. I had the good fortune to spend an evening with Ron and Mariette last summer and I was uplifted by my dear friend dealing positively with the life card that he had been dealt. Your positive influences have been left far and wide and will continue to be felt in the hearts of your students and your colleagues. I send support and sympathetic thoughts to marvellous Mariette and the family. Happy Trails, Marg O'Hara - Posted by: Marg O'Hara (colleague at Parc La Salle School ) on: Sep 04, 2014

Ron was the best fastball coach any of us girls could ever ask for! He made sure that you knew your strengths and weaknesses and how to work with them. I will never forget his crazy signals, the nicknames, the teasing and the absolute care that he showed all of us ladies. Ron always had a smile for you no matter where you saw him; and frequently went out of his way to say hello. He was a great gym teacher and passed that love of sports on to so many. The last time I saw him, I was with one of my boys to whom he told stories of my playing for him. Such a joy to share. Mariette, Chantal, Reji and Dan we send our love and condolences. - Posted by: Marie & Bryce Baxter () on: Sep 04, 2014

He is also part of a great family who always displayed love and affection for each other naturally and without barriers. The towns in and around La Salle will surely miss Ron's teaching, coaching, umpiring and refereeing skills. He left a great impression all the students and young people who he helped along his way. Ron would often drop into the local Esso where I worked, spending 5 or 10 minutes shooting the breeze with a then 15 year old who didn't have much to offer outside of baseball. I could always tell he was kind, with a real sense of caring behind his questions. He was always encouraging, and he never stopped calling me 'Tiller', having started doing so when I was just a young boy. In my mind I'll always be on the lookout for (a shirtless) Ron riding up and down highway 330, and it'll bring a smile to my face always. - Posted by: Tyler Thiessen (Friend) on: Sep 04, 2014

I was at IDC from K-6 and he was my absolute favorite person at the school. He made gym class so much fun and made us laugh every time we stretched it out to "Electric Avenue" - I can't listen to that song and not laugh thinking about it. What really touched my heart was many years later after I had left the school and saw him as an umpire at a few of my baseball games, he actually remembered me and was so genuinely so happy to see me. Ron was such a kind man - teaching our young Darren how to skate at the old La Salle Skating Rink. Darren was enthralled by this man who took an interest in him and spent time showing him what he knew. I loved seeing Ron on his bike as he pedalled up 330 - and waving at the cars that passed him. And his curling team! - trying to beat them was always great fun. Our sincere condolences to his family. God bless, Ron. - Posted by: Terrance, Anne and Darren Petty (Neighbours and Acquaintances) on: Sep 03, 2014

Chico was one of the first shuttle drivers to welcome me to the Birchwood family when I took over the contact centre in 2010. He was warm, friendly, very funny, and really engaging to talk with. He will be missed. - Posted by: Rob Sawchuk (Co-Worker) on: Sep 03, 2014

My condolences to the Lagace family. It's often said what a great person someone was when they leave us but in Ron's case this couldn't be more true. 'Mr. Lagace' was by far my favourite teacher. Gym class in elementary school was always great fun. He loved to give kids nicknames and just had a way about him. He always told me to 'keep smiling', he certainly did. - Posted by: Kelly Wright (Former Student) on: Sep 03, 2014
