WILLIAM TKACHUK It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Tkachuk at the age of 83, on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Vita Hospital. William was born October 17, 1930 in Gardenton, MB to parents Kost and Anne (Druzyk) Tkachuk. He was the oldest of four children. From Gardenton, the family moved to Menisino, MB in 1943. It is there that William bought his first farm at the age of 17 years old. On June 16, 1951 he married his childhood sweetheart Doreen (Charney). They spent the next 63 years farming in Menisino. William will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen, two daughters Daphne (Joe) Kowal and Beverly Tkachuk of Winnipeg, and son John (Patricia) Tkachuk of Menisino, as well as his six grandchildren Jonathon (Angie) Tkachuk, Shane Tkachuk, Jennifer Fosty, Bryan Fosty, Emily Tkachuk and Willow Tkachuk, and two great-grandchildren Cody and Tessia Tkachuk all of which were his pride and joy. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Johnny in infancy, two sisters Jean and Mary, and his grandson Christopher Tkachuk. William was a hard worker, had many stories to tell, was a man of his word and had many accomplishments in his life. He had a successful cattle and grain farm which his son John and daughter-in-law Patricia have taken over. He was the Reeve for the RM of Piney from 1975 to 1977 and from 1986 to 1998; Trustee/Board Chairman for Boundary School Division for 24 years; Chairman of the Board Directors of the Vita and District Health Centre for many years; as well as member of the Vita and District Health Centre Foundation, the Stuartburn-Piney Weed Board, the Piney-Pinecreek Border Airport Committee, the Triple R Community Futures Development and the Crown Lands Committee. He was also an avid supporter of the Conservative Party both provincially and federally. With utmost and sincere gratitude we thank the staff at Vita Hospital for their kind, caring and compassionate efforts in making his stay at the hospital as comfortable as possible. Prayers will be held at the Vita Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vita Funeral Home with interment to follow the service at the Menisino Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The War Amps. "Vichnaya Pam'yat" Vita Funeral Home In Care of Arrangements (204) 425-3114
