Date of Passing: Aug 29, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN (AL) LESPERANCE 1936 - 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Lesperance, peacefully at home on Friday, August 29, 2014, with family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Esther (Toews), of 49 years; son Brett (Penny), grandchildren Sarah, Connor, Drake, Alana; daughter Jolie (Josh), grandchildren Phaolan, Ezri, and Wrenn. During Al's life he cared and gave so much to others. It was a honour for his family to be able to do the same for him, through his battle with cancer. Those who knew him will know what a loss he will be to his family and friends. We will continue to live our lives the way he would have wanted us to; but we will miss him deeply. Goodbye husband, dad, grandpa and friend. We are all blessed for having you in our lives. Al spent many years supporting and fundraising for various events. We ask that, in lieu of flowers, you please make a donation to your favourite charity in Al's name. A Mass will be held at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd. at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6 with a reception to follow. Esther & family, I am so sorry to hear about Al's passing. I haven't seen you for many years, but have never forgotten living next door on Imperial, & the Jaycee involvement of both Alan & Dick. Those were good old days! My thoughts are certainly with you all at this time. - Posted by: Sheila Robb (Long ago friend & neighbour.) on: Sep 22, 2014

Al, who I had known since grade 1 was one of the really good guys with a great sense of humor and a very quick mind. I also, like many others, enjoyed going duck hunting with him at Lake Louise. Although I didn't see him many times he called and we chatted when he came through Calgary and several years ago when I made one of my infrequent visits to Winnipeg he took a half day to show me around The Forks. A wonderful family man who will missed by all. - Posted by: Al McLean (Friend) on: Sep 08, 2014

We have some wonderful memories of our time spent with you and Al: living it up at Jaycee functions with the Candy Man, quality lake times at Locke Bay and Black Sturgeon, soaking up the sun and music at Folk Fest and wine soaked meals and good laughs many times over the years. We will miss you Al! - Posted by: Terry and Vicki Hawkins (Friends) on: Sep 05, 2014

Ella and I send our heartfelt condolences to you Esther and family. Al will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. My friendship with ''Jeep'' started at age 6. We were the Fred Astair and Gene Kelly of our day when we Tap-danced on the empty oil barrels outside Jeff Longs shop. One morning we were going duck hunting out to Lake Louise and I was to pick him up at 5:30 a.m. When I got to his house it was all in darkness and not wanting to wake his household, I went by myself. To my surprise about an hour later who should arrive at the lake, which was about 4 miles out of town, was Jeep on his bicycle. Now that is a true friend. We played ball, golf, tennis and had a great hockey team called the ''Mosquitos'' which Al, Gar Beckstead and myself played on a high powered line. Also, many hours were spent riding around in Mr. Lesperance's car listening to the popular songs of that time when we were teen-agers. We had a lot of good memories too numerous to mention. Goodbye old friend, you will be at peace now. Ella and Les Howard - Posted by: Les Howard (Longtime Friend) on: Sep 04, 2014

Our hearts broke this morning when we read the Wednesday's Free Press. We are so sorry to hear of Dearest Allan's passing. Wow - Talk about a super, priceless man. Our hearts are for sure with all his family because no one was more a family man then he was. We did meet together on the front lawn of their home 2 years ago and he was all ''family '', in fact he loved to have everyone on his front lawn cause he also entertained all his neighbours along with us. What a super special man. May God Bless you All and his memory will live forever. - Posted by: Don and Shirley Carbert ( cousins ) on: Sep 04, 2014

Garfield Street will miss Al. The breakfasts he would cook on the mornings of our street party, his annual christmas parties, the summer evenings on his front lawn drinking scotch and sharing laughs. He loved life, and he was truly a good man. Godspeed Al. - Posted by: Tim Garrett (Neighbor) on: Sep 04, 2014

Al was a real go-getter and quick to volunteer his time and efforts to any good cause - when the Senate needed a driver to pick up delegates at the airport, Al was the first to volunteer, from early morning to late at night - both in 1999, and again in 2007 ... he wore a track from the Viscount Gort to the airport and back, many times - he'll be missed by all his Senate buddies ... My first recollections of my friend Al , who throughout his life we always called "Jeep", were our heated discussions and arguments regarding who was going to play center ice position on our hockey line comprised of myself, Les Howard, and Jeep. That line scored a lot of goals all the way from bantams through the senior league in the Emerson area. Al was always the guy who when I returned from my world travels was still living in the Winnipeg area and so over the years we were able to maintain our friendship. Al to me was always bigger than life, a great left-winger, A superb golfer, and over the years we did our best to keep the establishments in Pembina from Ma Shorts to The Corner Bar in business. He was a good friend and I shall miss him deeply. Fair Winds Jeep - Posted by: Garfield Beckstead (Lifelong friend ) on: Sep 03, 2014

Our heartfelt condolences to Esther and family. I know Al was a great family man and will be missed. I first met "Jeep" in 1946. I lived just a couple blocks down the street. I always had to pass his house on the way to town. We become friends and spent many hours playing war in the ditch by his house or crawling through the tall grass behind Jeff Long's shop. We shot a lot of bad guys in those days. As we got older there was the odd dip in the Red River when fishing was slow. A better swim was the Junction... it was still the water from the river but the silt settled out in the water tower and the overflow kept a little slough in the ditch full of water. No bathing suits required. I don't think we did "Lake Louis" as you would sink up to your knees in the mud. Winter there was always a quick road hockey after school by his place. I was his first customer for a haircut when his dad was trying to teach him the family business. I'm sure he kept it up.It has been a long time passing but these memories will be with me till I'm too old to remember. Goodbye Jeep, thanks for the memories. There are a lot more. My condoleance to Allan's family. I had the pleasure to work and to volunteer with Al for the Winnipeg Life underwriters Cystic Fibrosis campaigns of which Al represented for many years on the National Board. He was always there to volunteer and indeed a true professional in the insurance business. RIP my friend, God's gain and our loss - Posted by: Norbert Collette (friend/aquaintance) on: Sep 03, 2014
