  • Vern, we miss you. Fondly sharing our special memory of Nov. 8th, 1986; our wedding day held Saturday p.m. overcoming the Blizzard of the Century. Our journey was memorable and still cherished. "What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." quoted Helen Keller. Our soul, our unique essence never dies, it brings us together again & again. These thoughts and your love help bring us daily peace & comfort. Celebrate in paradise and enjoy the wisdom you are granted. You were called HOME too soon for us. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, comfort you forever & always. - Posted by: Laurie Jordan (Fondly known as Wife #2 ) on: Nov 07, 2014

I am grateful for the ten years that Vern was my loving step-Dad, being helpful, caring, patient and a lot of fun. I appreciated and will cherish the visits we had as adults, in Brandon and Winnipeg when Dad also met Gary my chosen life partner (now 14 yrs. together). Vern gave us the "Dad's blessing" words and wink, "I approve April". That is such a great memory for us. May we all find comfort in each of our special memories. we will miss you very much Dad. The grace of God be with you Dad. I believe as Mom does; your soul will continue to laugh often, praise loudly, love generously and live on in heaven. • We are saddened by the loss of Vern and we share your sorrow Kris, Jackson lost his "best buddy", Dean (aka Dad's.. Buck), Kelly (aka Dad's .. Curly), Duane and Teresa and your families. Our hearts grieve over what has been lost, our spirit rejoices with the memories he has left us. Vern agreed there are never goodbyes, that he and we, all live in the hearts of those that love us unconditionally, forever & always. Our journey's get complicated; Dean, Kelly and April cherish those memories of growing up with a loving, playful (a big kid himself),generous and hardworking Dad. Buck and Curly, remember Mom #2 & your step-sister April (aka Arnie) you are always both in our thoughts, your partners and your children; Madison, Kennedy & Brandon. We know that you are also mourning the sudden loss of your Mom in Dec. 2013. Unbearable grief few can imagine. Take comfort in knowing that many of us believe we have been gifted another angel to watch over us, Vern will. Vern shared his passions with his family and many friends; stock car building and racing #84, patiently teaching his children in the garage, the yard, on camping trips, travel adventures and endless hours floor wrestling, laughing, starting pillow fights, making skating rinks and slippery slides behind the house and trail making for others. Vern loved curling, mixed and men's, biking, swimming, dancing, skiing, playing guitar and singing. He enjoyed the quiet times sewing (yes, he custom tailor his own jeans!) and later combined sewing and computers to create Timberline Ventures to create memorable designs and branding promotional products for his valued customers. Vern was always listening to music, especially while he was driving, building and sewing. His music hero was Winnipeg's Neil Young (fav album, Harvest Moon 1992) and Yanni's tunes. Vern spent hours learning guitar with Doug & Marion, few knew he was a romantic songwriter also. In his later years, he volunteered serving his community on council, to lead cooperation, share ideas and support change when required. He worked tirelessly on many committees. For 45 yrs. Vern was always fixing equipment to meet others needs; quads, snowmobiles, bikes, the tractor and hay rack so he could host rides for his kids and other families that joined outings. His family, students, friends and strangers enjoyed participating in his creative and successful p.t. business ventures Spring Valley Enterprises and Timberline Ventures. Vern had endless ideas, energy, a contagious laugh, a mind full of good jokes, he did not take himself too seriously. He offered a helping hand to many fixing their vehicles, helping building houses, garages, trailers, fixing computers, teaching software, selling and installing sat. dishes back in the early days, and was grateful for just a thank you, a cold beer or rye press on ice! Vern always loved entertaining, hosting countless BBQs, brunches and dinners. Vern had a passion for excellence in all that he started and always finished. His creativity launched the Combine Demo Derby (1st ever in Canada that made National News in 1980's), many car demos for the Brandon Summer Fairs, he, his family and team successfully launched the indoor motocross races. Vern loved to create adventure, make change and leave a footprint in many places that would make a difference; he was a born leader, Pied Piper for many students he engaged in his ventures so they too would learn, share and grow. Many were surprised, what team members would do for a beer, pizza slice, free T-shirt and a chance to join love what they do for "work" and earn mutual respect. Vern, you were challenging, your energy was unbeatable, your smile shone brightly, your laughter warmed our souls, your attitude of work hard and play harder was admired. Your mantra, live the life you want because life is too short has merit. To err is human, to forgive, divine. You have left us too soon, rest peacefully in paradise. God bless you. - Posted by: Laurie Jordan (fondly known as Wife #2 ) on: Sep 04, 2014

  • Duane - I was so sorry to hear of Vern's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him on a job in Northern Ontario last fall. Our shared experiences as municipal councillors led to lively conversation during those few days. I know you will miss him and the influence and insight he brought to your life. I do hope that a sound or a taste or a smell or a sight will remind you in the future of happy memories of growing up and growing older with your older brother. My thoughts will be with you on Friday as you celebrate Vern's life. - Posted by: Diane Huber (worked with Vern) on: Sep 03, 2014
