Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, Jim completed his architectural education and started his practice in Scotland. Jim's adventurous spirit brought him to Canada in the 1950s, where he practiced architecture in Winnipeg, Manitoba with the firm Moody & Moore. It was there that he met and married his wife, Jean, also an architect, and they started their family. Through the years, Jim and Jean's architectural careers took them and their three children to Vancouver, British Columbia (1974) and eventually to Calgary (1978), where they settled permanently. Jim was active in the Calgary community, most notably as a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and as a member and past president of the Calgary Burns Club. Jim designed many wonderful residential and commercial projects. He was most proud of his design of the University of Winnipeg expansion (Lockhart and Centennial Halls) as well as the Calgary Centre for the Performing Arts. Besides his loving wife, Jim will be deeply missed by his children Sarah, Andrew, and David (Jan), and three grandchildren Zoƫ, Justin, and Kate, all of Calgary. He also leaves to mourn his brother Peter (Christine) and sister-in-law Katie, all of Glasgow. Jim was predeceased by his mother, father, and two brothers: Johnnie and Francis (Frank). Jim was a kind and gentle man, with a wonderful sense of humour. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by all those who knew him. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (703 Heritage Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in honour of Jim be made to Parkinson Alberta.
