HARVEY LLOYD HOSFIELD May 5, 1929 - September 10, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Harvey at the age of 85. Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife Sonia; his children, Pam (Peter Staub), Kari Peterson (Harry), Tom (Marilyn), and Andrea; grandchildren Megan, Andrew, Jeremy, Bradley (Jen), Margaret (Claude Campeau), Brendan, Alexander and Keenan; and great-granddaughters Abagail and Leah; Aunt Mona and Uncle Harold; brothers-in-law: Walter (Millie) Beyak, Alex Beyak, and Boris (Margaret) Beyak; sister-in-law: Sylvia Cochran; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Harvey enjoyed his family and was proud of all their accomplishments. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Veronica, sisters Norma and Florence and brother Jim. Harvey grew up in Transcona, and moved to Rainy River, where he met Sonia and they were married in 1952. There they raised Pam, Kari and Tom, before moving to Winnipeg in 1960, with Andrea arriving after their move to the city. After a 36 year career at Canadian National Railway, Harvey retired in 1986 and enjoyed some of the best years of his life. He had time to golf, bowl, travel, fish, curl, play bridge and follow his greatest passions, talking pensions and telling jokes. During his working years, Harvey was a long-time volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Winnipeg, an active supporter of the United Way of Winnipeg and lifetime member of the United Transportation Union serving in various positions with local 1874. He was a dedicated member of the CN Pensioners Association of Manitoba, working tirelessly to ensure the interests of current and future members were secured. He served on the national CN Pension Board for many years and edited the local pensioners' newsletter for over 20 years. A celebration of Harvey's life will take place at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, 274 Campbell on September 17 at 2:00 p.m. Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street, is in care of arrangements. www.wheelerfuneral.com

  • Worked with Harvey many years ago as a young esb when he was a conductor in the Sioux lookout pool. Lots of laughs but he was a no nonsense person when he was working. My wife and I would like to express our deepest condolences to all who knew Harvey, especially the Hosfield family. - Posted by: Bill Tataryn (Co-worker) on: Sep 15, 2014

  • I first met Harvey in 1986 when I retired and joined him on the CN National Council and Pension Board. At that time we met monthly for Pension Board meetings, arriving the day or night before meetings and enjoyed many happy and fun get togethers in hotel rooms when Harvey was at his best. What grand memories! Have not been in touch very often with him since early 1994 but it was always nice to reconnect. My deepest sympathy goes to the family. • Dear Sonia, It is with great sorrow that I learn of Harvey's passing. I have known Harvey for about 12 years now and he was well respected by his fellow pensioners for his contribution to the CN Pensioners Association. Although his passing will create a void in your life and the lives of his family, his passing will also leave a void in the lives of those who knew and worked with him over the years. May I take this opportunity to express our sincerest condolences on behalf of myself and the National Council of CN Pensioners Association. - Posted by: Bruce Peacock (Friend and fellow CN pensioner) on: Sep 13, 2014

  • On behalf of the many CN Pensioner friends that Harvey knew and represented over his pension years I send our condolences. When I took the position as President of our Association Harvey supplied me with his guidance when I phoned him for advise and provided several written documents for my use. I have several of his documents on file today and his the work he did will be passed on. To Sonia and all family members, always remember the good times as life continues on. - Posted by: David Simpson (President of the CN Pensioner Association National Council) on: Sep 13, 2014
