MARY CATHERINE HUTCHISON
Born: May 30, 1920
Date of Passing: Sep 06, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY CATHERINE HUTCHISON (née MCMULLEN) It is with great sadness that the Hutchison family of Pine Falls, Manitoba, acknowledges the passing of Mary Catherine Hutchison on September 6, 2014. Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband John, her brothers Jack, Eddie, and Roy, and her sister Rita. Mary is survived by her sister Jean, and by her four children: Eric (Nancy), Cathy (Paul), Michael (Kate) and Mark (Janet); ten grandchildren: Michael (Jung-ae), Cameron (Launi), Aidan (Jean-Francois), Caitlin, James (Lauren), Sarah Beth (Erik), Robb, Annie, Meaghan and Liam, and her two great-grandchildren Duncan and Claire. Mary was born May 30, 1920 to James and Bridget McMullen in Glace Bay, Cape Breton. She grew up as the oldest of six siblings. She always loved to tell the story of meeting her husband John at a dance in Halifax. John and Mary were married on July 7, 1946 in Mary's hometown, and were married for more than 65 years. The newlyweds settled in Pine Falls, John's hometown, and were actively involved in the community, including their love for figure skating and the Stirling Pipe Band. Mary taught English in Pine Falls, where she led the church choir and taught music lessons. She played the guitar and the piano and enjoyed sharing her love of music until well in her 80s. The family would get together to sing and play and Mary's passion for music lives on in her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated cook and baker and insisted that John design the kitchen in their cottage, the Shack, so that she would be part of every family gathering while she cooked and baked. Her Saskatoon and raspberry pies, her glorious chocolate cake and her many cookies were much loved by her family. Mary's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Sunnywood Manor of Pine Falls, MB. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on September 21, 2014 at the United Church in Pine Falls commencing at 1:30. Donations to the Sunnywood Manor Personal Care Home or a charity of your choice are gratefully appreciated in lieu of flowers. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery 204-338-7111

It was with great sadness to hear of Mrs. Hutchinson's passing. She was such a wonderful woman and a great piano teacher. Although, it's been many years since I took lessons I always enjoyed visiting with her even years after. I always loved her joke "Don't mind me, I don't 'look' so good" when she couldn't see the notes on the page and how she'd always smile with love when John would hide candy in our shoes during our lessons. I will truly miss both Mary and John. At least now John can finally be with his "sweetheart" again and I know how much she missed him as well. May they rest in peace together forever. My deepest condolences to the entire Hutchinson family. - Posted by: Julie Chevrefils ((Student/friend)) on: Sep 14, 2014

My thoughts and condolences go out to Mrs. Hutchison's family and friends. I was a guitar student of hers some 25 years ago. Mrs. Hutchison's passion for music fueled my own. She was a patient, dedicated and devoted teacher who was always so very proud of all her student's accomplishments. Even as a grown woman were I to run into Mrs. Hutchison in town, I would still hear..."So Dani-Lynn...you do still play don't you? It would be a shame if you didn't. I was always so proud of you kids." There are so many memories I have of my time spent in her home, from the candies Mr.Hutchison would hide in our shoes at the end of every practice, to Mrs. Hutchison's unwavering pride in her East Coast roots, and but especially her love for her family. Every Wednesday I was surrounded with photographs and endless stories about her children and grandchildren. Although she will be truly missed, take comfort in her legacy. - Posted by: Dani-Lynn Coss (Former Student) on: Sep 14, 2014

I am so sad to learn of Mary's passing. Your Mother was spoke of, my entire life, by my parents. She was like family, and my Father's figure skating partner. We loved her as we did your Father. Because of your Mother, my love of Celtic music was born. My friends and I still talk about her teaching us 'Farewell to Nova Scotia' with great fondness. I still sing it. When my Father passed, at the luncheon she cupped my face with her gentle hands and quietly said my name. It was so endearing and warmed my heart so. A great comfort. She was a great lady with a beautiful smile and I always will cherish the memories. May she rest in Peace. My deepest condolences to the family - Posted by: elaine siddall (student and friend) on: Sep 13, 2014

I was at work today and someone showed me your Mom's Obituary. I'm glad it was at the end of my shift because this hit me SO HARD! I have so many memories of your Mom as such a kind and caring friend(she was such a compassionate special friend to me when my parents died and said she had a daughter Cathy and now she has an adopted daughter Kathie. It was so nice that Mary and John took me under their wings at that time I don't know what I would have done without their support)To our boys they were like their adopted Grandparents and I'm sure they will be very Sad to hear of your Mom's passing. I know Mary is happy being with John who was the love of her life and she will now be reunited with her Brother Jack and the rest of her family. I'm sure my Mom Kaye Campbell( from the Hub) will also be exchanging stories growing up in the Hub and sharing stories about their School Days and all the Musicals they were in together! I will miss Mary SO MUCH MORE THEN WORDS CAN EVER SAY! It would be an honor to speak a few words about your Mom on September 21. REST IN PEACE MY SPECIAL FRIEND! Lots of Love to ALL OF YOU!
