ROBERT LAMONT ROE September 3, 1946 - September 9, 2014 Bad Boy, always in a hurry to get where he was going, slipped away from his family and a legion of friends far too early, leaving a quieter and much sadder world in his wake. Rocked by his passing are his adored wife Pat, daughter Jen Roe (Brian Larson) and granddaughters Kennedy and Peyton, sister Lee Robinson, mother-in-law Tess Dutton, brother-in-law Ian (Vicki), and many nephews and nieces. Always ready with a hand, a beer and an argument, Bob was truly a larger-than-life man, his booming voice and boisterous laugh punctuating conversations in curling clubs, 19th holes and social gatherings anywhere in his beloved Winnipeg, or wherever his pursuit of fun and friendship might take him. After a career with Manitoba Hydro, Bob - as he did with most things - threw himself into retirement wholeheartedly, reveling in his granddaughters, and in being free to spend even more time at the cottage at Laclu, ON with friends and family. Bob lived for stories, both in telling them and creating them, and the Laclu stories are legion. Friendship and talent led this consummate teammate to national championship football with the Fort Garry Lions, college football with Minot State Beavers, and senior football glory - and a spot in the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame - with the St. Vital Bulldogs. His love of the game carried on in his devotion to both the Steelers and the Bombers. His passion for curling made the Fort Rouge Curling Club a second home, and almost every golf course in southern Manitoba and beyond bears the scars of his passing. But above all Bob was a good man, a rock for Pat and his family, always an anchor for friends. His many kindnesses and humour will leave a huge hole in the fabric of life for all who knew him. Fittingly, a celebration of Bob's life will be held Tuesday, September 16 at Fort Rouge Curling Club, 750 Daly St. The drop-in gathering will run from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Since the Bad Boy was not much of a flower guy, and always in there for the underdog, his family requests any donations, instead of flowers, be made to the care and cure of Clayton Thompson, a little fellow fighting for his life. More information on Clayton's battle can be had by e-mailing Lori Watson Sewell at Lwsewell@Hotmail.com, or donations can be made at any CIBC branch (transit 04007, account no. 5649196), sending an e-transfer to kids9@mymts.net or by cheque payable to M. Thompson in trust for Clayton Thompson. Online condolences can be made by visiting www.sharingmemories.ca.

Condolences & Memories (29 entries)

  • I extend my condolences to Bob's family. Bob and I knew each other as kids. We played tackle football many mornings on the boulevard of Beresford with all the boys on the street. Bob was always good at what he did and I was happy to hear he had such a great career in football. Bob will be missed but surely not forgotten. - Posted by: Dave Pearce (freind) on: Oct 19, 2014

  • Pat - Brian and I were so sad to read of Bob's passing. There are so many great memories. We are so sorry that we could not attend the reception at the Fort Rouge. Please know that we are thinking of you and send our sincere condolences to you and your family. Warm Regards Brian and Ione - Posted by: Brian Fortier and Ione Christopherson (Friends) on: Sep 21, 2014

  • Pat and Ian, I was unable to attend Bobby's celebration of life but I was deeply saddened when I heard the news. I recall times back in the good old days in Riverview when Bob, Ian and my younger brother Garth would get into all kinds of shenanigans involving car rebuilds in the backyard, construction projects at the lake and other events of interest. I last saw Bob at the Reh-Fit some years ago burning up the track and the calories. He was a great guy who was taken too soon. - Posted by: Lorne Colpitts (friend) on: Sep 19, 2014

  • Pat - I was shocked & am so very sorry to learn of Bob's untimely passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of the Roe family. May the love and support of family and friends give you strength, and may wonderful memories give you comfort. Sending you hugs. - Posted by: Lesley (Simmons) Hammerback (Churchill High School friend) on: Sep 17, 2014

  • Pat and Leola - I was very saddened to hear today of Bob's passing. We were best friends for a few years as kids, running around the river bank with wooden "rifles", playing football, and golfing. We even got hauled into the police station in the middle of one summer's night when we were caught skulking down back lanes on our way to Windsor Golf Course to fish golf balls out of the Seine River. We rarely saw each other much after high school, but I'm really glad now that we did have a chat in Bob's yard about a year ago. - Posted by: Bill Rayner (Old Friend) on: Sep 17, 2014

  • Pat, Jen and family, We were shocked to hear of Bob's passing and so grateful we got to see him on our last visit. • Pat, our deepest condolences to you and the family on Bob's passing. Last saw The "Bad Boy" in October, 2013 at a Bulldog brunch before a Bomber game at which we had a good talk. Will never forget the time we spent together playing football for the Bulldogs. A true "Band of Brothers". Bob was a very good player and friend and we will be together forever after being inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Before we became team mates we played Junior Football against each other along with Blair, Dave Brown and a few others. We always had great battles against each other back in the mid 60's.
