Vicki was born and raised in Weston and Silver Heights. She danced with the McConnell Dancers which included a performance at EXPO 67 in Montreal. Vicki was also a teacher of Irish Dance. She attended Glenway, Golden Gate and Silver Heights Collegiate. She graduated from Silver Heights Collegiate receiving the St. James Assiniboia School Division Scholarship. She graduated from Red River College and the University of Manitoba with a Business Ed/Education degree and received the Manitoba Business Ed Teachers' Association Award and the Evelyn Bagot Scholarship for top marks. Vicki's first experience in the working world was with MasterCard. She then embarked on her teaching career which included teaching positions at St. James Collegiate, Sturgeon Creek Collegiate, Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, and St. John's High School. She left teaching for a while to work as a property manager with Winfield Developments. She was accepted into Law at the University of Manitoba (twice) but fortunately for all her students; she chose to return to the classroom both times. Vicki continued her teaching career in the business education department at Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School where she later became department head, then vice principal. After 11 years as vice principal she spent six years as principal of Lockport Junior High and then returned to the Comp as principal for the past three years. Vicki remained close to the business education department ladies she worked with at the Comp, and special thanks are extended to them; you've been her rock. Thank you to all the staff at Lord Selkirk Comp and Lockport Junior High. Vicki lived to teach and was thrilled to wake up every morning and rush off to be at school by 7:30 a.m. Our deepest gratitude is extended to the staffs at St. Boniface CancerCare / Urgent Care and Health Sciences Centre. Thanks for helping us through the past 21 months. Special thanks to Dr. Daeninck, Dr. Qureshi, Janine, Tracy and Beth. Thank you to our family doctor, Dr. Terry Babick for the excellent care over the past 37 years. Education has been Vicki's life. Our youth are the leaders of tomorrow; our future...and the future looks bright. Educating our youth was her top priority. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Vicki Cielen Scholarship Fund (c/o LSSD, 205 Mercy Street, Selkirk, MB R1A 2C8), the McConnell Dance School or Orlan Ukrainian Dance Group. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at: Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., 221 Mercy Street, Selkirk, MB.

I was a very troubled student who didn't take school seriously and couldn't bother to attend class. She caught me skipping and forging notes to get back into my classes. Long story short was that she got me to take school more seriously and put me back on the straight and narrow. Thanks for that Mrs. Cielen! - Posted by: Audrey (Former student @ The Comp) on: Jul 26, 2021
