After a long struggle with various medical conditions, which she fought bravely right to the end, Darlene went to her home in heaven on September 4, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Johanna Garn. Left behind are her loving and devoted husband Wendyl, son Andrew, daughter Chelsey (Derek), grandchildren Elliot and Taylor, sisters Karen (Don) and Linda (Mike), nieces Megan and Caity, as well as other extended family and many close and dear friends. Darlene had a wide circle of friends and enjoyed spending time with them, often entertaining in her home. Her husband Wendyl was the perfect partner as he enjoyed doing food preparation and cooking. They both had a gift of hospitality and often opened their home to young and old. Darlene had a particular affinity with young people and welcomed and enjoyed their company. For many years she also directed children's musicals in her church community. Darlene enjoyed family gatherings and established traditions which brought her extended family together. Being with those she loved gave her energy and brought her great happiness. Darlene was gifted in administration and had a keen business sense. That was evident in her choice of careers, from restaurant management to real estate comptroller. She had excellent people skills and enjoyed mentoring and encouraging those within her circle of influence. One of her great joys and accomplishments was becoming President of the Winnipeg Real Estate Board in 2008. She enjoyed the travel associated with her work and especially the people she encountered in the wider real estate community. Darlene, your family and friends love you and will always miss you. A private service of remembrance in Darlene's honour was held at Friends Funeral Home.

It is with great sadness that we learn of Darlene's home going. We watched her grow from a little girl to the beautiful woman she was. We have wonderful memories of our two families camping, fishing, swimming, and our great youth group of which she was faithful in taking part. We will miss her newsy Christmas letter. Our sympathies, love and prayers go to Wendyl and the family, Karen and Linda and their families. Love, the Bests. - Posted by: Ed and Doreen Best (Friends) on: Sep 21, 2014

It with deepest sadness that Darlene has left this earth. To her credit, she leaves a world that is richer on account of who she was and what she gave to this planet. Always thinking of others, striving for a better place by lending a hand to those in need and always offering a warm welcome to anyone that graced her home. Her husband Wendyl stood beside her with a sense of duty that is rarely matched, a smile that would lift Darlene's spirits and an unspoken understanding that would provide comfort to his beautiful partner. Darlene you will always be in our hearts and memories. - Posted by: Laura Ross (Friend) on: Sep 16, 2014
