MELVIN JARVIS With God's grace, on September 11, 2014, Mel Jarvis passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side. Born on April 9, 1947 in Vancouver, BC at St. Paul's Hospital, Mel was predeceased by his loving parents Gordon and Grace Jarvis of Victoria, BC. Mel will be dearly missed by his wife Donna, daughter Pam Done (Robert), Donna's sons Doug Stuart (Bev), Todd Stuart (Regan), Dean Stuart (Karen), and daughter Shawn Stuart (Jeffrey), grandchildren Erika, Roger, Lee, Jaimie, Courtnie, and Konnor, his Aunt Eunice Parry, cousins Gloria Robinson (Kirk), Ron Parry (Joan), Alan Parry, Sheryl Pasman (Jim), and families. Following Mel's graduation from Silver Heights Collegiate and the University of Winnipeg, he enjoyed two successful professions. Beginning in Winnipeg, MB Mel worked with Air Canada for 25 years and then went on to a career in real estate for another 25 years. During such time, he earned his Wings at the Winnipeg Flying Club (1965) and later obtained his commercial flying license (1972). Afterwards, Mel and Donna decided to open a new chapter in their lives and moved from Winnipeg to Victoria in 1996, where they made many more good friends, including those through membership in the Elks of Canada as well as Elk Lake Baptist Church. Mel also continued real estate with Pemberton Holmes and Re/Max Real Estate of Victoria. Mel was best known for his great sense of humour and his passion for life, especially his love for the speed of automobiles, planes, and motorcycles. Mel and Donna also travelled extensively throughout the years, including many visits to Calgary, AB and Winnipeg to visit family and friends. We wish to give a sincere thank you to Dr. David Saltman who supported Mel throughout his illness. Thank you also to the Chemo Team at the Cancer Clinic, Dr. A. Leong, G. P. Island Health Home and Community Care Nurses, Beacon Home Care Aid, Victoria Hospice Palliative Care, and St. Anthony's IDA Clinic Pharmacy. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Elk Lake Baptist Church, 5349 Patricia Bay Hwy., Victoria, BC. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our condolences to Mel's family. I met Mel when he lived in St. Adolphe Mb. He played slow pitch softball for the Spirits and he had a great sense of humour and told the best jokes. I only knew him for a few years before he moved but I will always remember him. I'm glad he touched my life. - Posted by: Davd DeVos (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2014

  • My deep condolences to Mel's family. We worked in the same department for 15 years and I have fond memories of good times. Mel had a remarkable memory and could tell jokes like no one I know. He had the whole room laughing till they cried on many occasions. You shall be missed old friend. - Mair - Posted by: Mair Livingstone (former Air Canada colleague) on: Sep 17, 2014
