Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARNET COOKE BENNETT November 1, 1933 - September 15, 2014 Garnet, a long time resident of Laclu, Ontario, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Shirley Bennett and Jackie Chastin, and the love of his life and best friend Janet Bennett. Garnet is survived by his younger brother Lloyd Bennett (Sigi); his son Barry and Norie Bennett, and his daughter Barb and Jim Crowley. He is also survived by his grandchildren Joelle (Jamie), Sheena (Chris), Britney (Darin) and Tyson, and his friend and companion for the last 10 years Lucia Melnick. He also has many special friends and extended family too many to list that called him Papa Bennett or Mr. B. Born in Winnipeg, MB, he moved to Vermillion Bay at a very young age. Garnet came to the Kenora area in 1957, worked for Ontario Department of Lands and Forests for 35 years as a mechanic, as well Garnet also worked full time at the family business Bennett's Marine Service with his wife, son and daughter. He retired from his business in 2002. Garnet was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and supporter/builder of the Laclu / Pellatt community. He took pride in all that he was involved in, the many organizations. Most important in Garnet's life was his faith, his family and his friends. Garnet was an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, and also was one of the founders and continued to be an active member of the Pellatt United Fire fighters and the Pellatt Community Centre. Garnet will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched. He was a man of honesty, integrity and pride. Important was the way he lived not way he died. A celebration of Garnet's life will take place Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. At the Pellatt Community Centre / Pellatt Fire Hall, on Highway 641 about one km. from Highway 596 junction. Family and friends wish to thank Dr. Mandy Spencer, Dr. Rob Scatliff and all the nurses and staff of the third floor for all the wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pellatt Community Centre and the Pellatt United Fire Fighters in care of Box 1, Site C, R.R.1, Keewatin, ON P0X 1C0. Remember him with a smile today he was not one with tears, reflect instead on all the happy years. Alcock Funeral Home & Cremation Services (Highway 17 West, Keewatin) in care of arrangements.
