DOROTHY DYKSTRA Peacefully at the Middlechurch Home on Wednesday September 17, 2014, Dorothy passed away at the age of 87. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, James and her six children: Doug (Heidi), Ken, Don, Arlene Moroz (Clem), Gerald (Cathy), and Karen Heinrich (Dennis); and five grandchildren: Jacqueline, Stacy, Robert, Calvin and Russell. She also leaves two sisters: Ruth McGimpsey and Anita Gibbs. She was predeceased by her father John, mother Anna, two sisters Joanne and Judy and two brothers Johnny and Ronnie. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be held from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. on the same day. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on April 11, 1927. She grew up in the North End and started working at the age of 16 at the Scott-Bathgate candy company. She worked there 13 years until marrying James in 1956. They farmed in Rosser, MB until 1970 when they purchased a larger dairy farm in Prairie Grove MB. In 1980 they purchased a house in Winnipeg where they enjoyed retirement for 33 years. Mom enjoyed a quiet retirement watching old movies, reading and knitting. The family would like to thank the staff at Middlechurch Home for their care and the compassion they showed Mom in the final period of her life.
