IRIS V. SCHENK 1914 - 2014 Peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, Iris passed away Friday, September 26, 2014 at the age of 100 years. Iris Victoria Schenk (nee Tompkins) was born March 3, 1914 in Barnsley, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Schenk of Swan Lake, two infant siblings and daughter Morlyne. Mourning her passing are her son Robert Schenk (Rachel), son-in-law David Clark, grandchildren, Bruce (Cheryl), Sharon, Trevor (Dana) Clark, and her many relatives and friends. Throughout her life, Iris had an inquisitive mind, a quick wit, a very precise and remarkable vocabulary and a great sense of humour. Her curiosity for travel led her to a number of destinations around the world including Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. Iris, to the end, enjoyed reading, crocheting and watching curling on TV. She was interested in the activities of and well-being of friends and loved ones. Family and strangers alike benefitted from her loving, caring and giving generosity. She will be remembered for her power of positive thoughts, her inner strength and her lace doilies. The Ceremony to Celebrate Iris' Life will be held at Riverside Lion's Estates, 188 Worthington Avenue, Winnipeg on Monday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Don McIntyre will officiate. A light lunch will be served. Interment will take place later in fall at Swan Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favourite charity.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Iris on her visits to Cutting Loose Hair Design. Even though she was tiny in stature she was neither timid nor meek. An independent soul, she always had a story to tell of her long past and adventures. She'll remain in my memory. - Posted by: Janet Wasney (hairstylist) () on: Oct 03, 2014

  • I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I was the first baby she photographed in her long career as the local photographer in Swan Lake and area. She took great pride in producing wonderful photos which captured perfect moments in time. The few times I encountered her along the many years since she left Swan Lake, I found her to be such a gentle and interesting lady. I wish you the blessings of many happy memories. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Christine Kist () on: Oct 01, 2014

  • Our sincere sympathy Robert and Rachel. I know you took good care of your Mom and because of that she had a happy life. Take care. - Posted by: Henry and Johanne Ketsman (friend) on: Sep 30, 2014

  • Iris will always be remembered for her friendship and "helping hands" always offered to my late grandmother in Swan Lake - Late Helen (usually called Nellie) Oakes and to the entire Oakes family on MANY occasions.. deepest sympathy to Robert (Bobby) and the extended family in this, their loss of a wonderful lady... - Posted by: Linda (Clemis) Ritchie (old family friend) on: Sep 30, 2014
