LAWRENCE RUSSELL MCATEER It is with profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our husband and father, Russell on September 28, 2014. Russell was born in Saskatoon on July 14, 1943. He was predeceased by his parents David and Francis, brother Donald, twin brother Robert, and sister-in-law Shirley. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Christine, and children/grandchildren: Shannon (Piper), Rebekka (Jason, Hadley, Lennyn), April (Christopher, Sarah), Heather (Mark, Allyson, Nathan), stepmother Elsie, brother Charles, sisters-in-law Roslyn (Rick), Morag, Tammy, long time friend Linda McAteer, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Russell loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He spent many hours reading, watching his favourite shows and his passion was poker! He had a varied career path starting with the Air Force, working on the DEW Line out of Tuktoyuktuk, driving truck and lastly Sobeys in Gimli. Russell was always ready with a smile and, an often, inappropriate joke! He enjoyed people and gave freely of himself to anyone who needed help. He will be missed everyday. Special thanks to the Winnipeg Police, W.F.P.S., St. Boniface Hospital staff for their gentle care of Russell. We will be forever grateful for the kindness of a stranger for helping him. Russell did not wish a public memorial service. A private memorial will be held for his immediate family. A heartfelt thank you to all for the love and support we have received during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Cancercarefdn.mb.ca or the Lion's Eyebank Foundation, eyebankmanitoba.com

Chriss I'm so sorry to hear about Russell. One of the things I remember is what a great team you two were, in everything you did. Both of you could be counted on for a few dirty jokes, it was a blast working (and knowing) you both. When I think of you it's always with laughter in my heart. I will miss knowing Russell is no longer here. Lori & Randy - Posted by: Lori Arnold (Friend/Co-Worker) on: Oct 03, 2014

My deepest condolences to Russ's family. It was my pleasure to work with Russ for many years. Always enjoyed one of his favorite sayings on the radio. "This is Russel 104 live on the air and I'm ready to rock and roll." That was my favorite one. Till we meet again. - Posted by: Dale Skyhar (Gardewine dispatcher) on: Oct 01, 2014
