DORENE ADAMS July 16, 1924 October 1, 2014 Dorene, Mom, Nana to her many grandchildren, and Tiny Nana to her great- grandchildren, passed away in the comfort of her family and dear friend. She was born and lived her childhood years in Beausejour. She spent lots of time performing extreme gymnastics in Hoban's Park and swimming in the Brokenhead River. She also spent many summers with friends at Clear Lake. She graduated high school from Rupert's Land Girls' School. Dorene had lots of boys chasing her until she met Fred Adams in 1946. They quickly fell in love and were married March 14, 1947. She became known by the love of her life as the "Beausejour Broad". They raised their five children on Rowand Avenue in Silver Heights. In 1982, they moved to Winnipeg Beach where they spent 29 happy years. Dorene was often asked by Fred, "okay Dorene, let's go for a drive" and she would drop whatever she was doing and enjoy a drive in their Volvo to an unknown destination. She had an exceptional smile and loved to laugh. Dorene was an extraordinary gardener, wonderful cook, animal lover, avid birdwatcher and squirrel chaser. Her family and friends always enjoyed her homemade borscht and dill pickles. Aside from these hobbies, being the stylish dresser that she was, if she was not out shopping for "more clothes" and "more shoes", she was busy hosting parties, happy hours and family dinners. Dorene and Fred annually drove to California to spend the winter in San Diego or Palm Springs where they spent some of their most memorable times with family and close friends. A short drive for Dorene and Fred often turned into a love-filled adventure in their Volvo across half the State of California. Happily married to Fred for 66 years, Dorene and Fred had: five children - Jack (Heather), Dick (Wendy), Nancy (Nick), Ken (Karen), Jane (John); 14 grandchildren (Andy, Jackie, Freddie, Charlea, Richie, Jim, Ryan, Jennifer, Chris, Russell, Karlee, Brennan, Leanne and Jennifer); 14 great-grandchildren. This made for some very large humorous family reunions at the lake! Some of her most special times were spent with her grandchildren! Some of those moments were spent in her garden, playing songs with them on the organ, playing cards, back scratching, drawing on their faces with her finger and "one at a time" sleepovers at the lake. Dorene was predeceased by her parents Alex and Myrtle, her three brothers Duff, Bill and Jack; and most importantly, her beloved Fred (2012). Dorene resided at Shaftsbury Park in the later part of her 90 years and Dorene remained spunky and young at heart. In these years, Dorene spent time tending to her flower gardens, stocking her bird feeders, go-carting, mini-golfing, bowling, shuffleboard and enjoying happy hours with family "sipping" Crown Royal & 7-up or a strawberry margarita. She was able to spend her last two winters in one of her favourite spots, Palm Springs with her "angel on earth", Gloria. It is an end of the era for the family. Dorene's "love of life" has been passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Dorene will forever live on in their memories.
