EDWARD FISCHER Peacefully, on Thursday, October 2, 2014, Edward Fischer went to be with his Heavenly Father. Ed was born on October 24, 1926 to Robert and Berta in a German community in Jesiorna, Poland. After the turmoil of the Second World War, Ed took the opportunity to immigrate to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. He married Hilda Schmidt on May 24, 1952, and they were blessed with three children; Laura, who died in infancy, Ingrid and Dan. Ed and Hilda were active members of Grant Memorial Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He and Hilda enjoyed greeting visitors at the church doors on Sundays. Ed enjoyed fixing cars and worked as a mechanic for many years, owning and managing a White Rose (now Shell) station. He had an opportunity to change careers and joined Standard Aero, where he worked as an engine inspector until his retirement. Ed and Hilda loved to travel. They went on many road trips throughout Canada and the United States. After retirement, they travelled to Mexico, Europe and Hawaii, their favourite destination. Ed leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter Ingrid. He was predeceased by his wife Hilda on August 3, 2011, infant daughter Laura on August 13, 1953, son Dan on July 4, 2013, son in law Norton Waizboim on October 30, 2000, his parents, and brothers Eric, Adolf and Robert in Germany. Special thanks to the staff at The Middlechurch of Winnipeg, where Ed spent the last year, for their kind and compassionate care. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., with services following at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow the service and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a chosen charity. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
