MICHAEL SHALAPATA 1922 - 2014 Michael Shalapata passed away peacefully September 30 at Fred Douglas Lodge at the age of 92. Mike was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Victoria Shalapata (nee Truss) and sisters Mary Subczak and Lily Meyer. He is survived by his nephews; Walter (Ruth) Subczak, Brian (Lynne) Meyer, Robert (Diane) Mills, Terry (Dorothy) Mills, and nieces; Brenda (Larry) Marquardson and Linda Truss-Baron (Matthew). Mike was also uncle to several great-nieces and nephews. Mike was born on September 3, 1922, in Winnipeg. Most of his working career was with the Canadian National Railway where he was an electrician at Symington Yard. With Vicki, Mike enjoyed family gatherings, excursions, and activities with their friends from the North-end Centennial Swimming Pool. At Fred Douglas Lodge, Mike participated in a variety of outings and activities. Acknowledgement and thank you to the friends and family who visited and cared for Michael during the past few years. Also, special thanks to the compassionate staff of Fred Douglas Lodge - a caring home. A memorial service and celebration of Uncle Mike's life will be held at Fred Douglas Lodge, 1275 Burrows Avenue, on Monday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fred Douglas Lodge.
