METRO (DMYTRO) REWNIAK "When You Lose Your Father, You Lose Your Foundation" It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father Metro on October 8, 2014 in his 94th year. Dad was born on November 13, 1920 at Ukraina, Manitoba to a family of 12 brothers and sisters: Mary, Lily, Nellie, Betty, Rose, Olga, Lena, Nick, Bill, Mike and Jack. He was the last surviving sibling. He spent his youth on the farm working with his dad at a family owned sawmill. As the war years approached, Dad enlisted in the army in 1941, and served in Europe from 1942 to 1945 with the South Saskatchewan Second Division and then with the Army Service Corporation. He served in England, France, Holland and Germany. He was honourably discharged from his service. In August, 1948, he married Helen Stefankiw of Wishart, Saskatchewan and raised two children: a son Richard and a daughter Ruthie. Metro was a founding member of the St. John the Apostle Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. Vital. After retiring from C.N.R., Dad and Mom spent a great deal of time at their cabin at Lester Beach, a place they built and enjoyed. Metro is survived by his daughter Ruthie ("His Buddy" Rick), son Ricky (Gail); grandchildren Shaylene, Scott (great-granddaughter Jesika), Kyle and Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sophia and Pacific Avenue, Selkirk, Manitoba, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Pete Chorney officiating. Lunch will be served in the hall next door, followed by interment at Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be granddaughter Shaylene; grandsons Kyle and Christopher; son Rick; nephews Karl Rewniak and Frank Paskaruk. Honorary pallbearer is Liam Cody. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Marine Museum of Selkirk or plant a tree in Dad's memory, as he had a true love and respect for nature. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
