GUNHILD LEIPZ On the evening of Wednesday, October 8, 2014, Gunhild Leipz, loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Lisa, with family by her side, at the age of 81. Gunhild was predeceased by her dear husband Edward (2001), and her parents Konrad and Anna Marie Backus. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Midnite/Diana (Greg), Lisa (George), son Glenn, and grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, John and Paul. Gunhild was born in Winnipeg on April 24, 1933 but spent her early childhood years in Sweden before returning back to Winnipeg. Gunhild graduated from Isaac Newton in 1952 and it was during high school that she met Edward. In 1954 Gunhild married Edward and together they proudly raised their three children in Transcona. When her children were of school age, Gunhild worked for Grainews of the United Grain Growers until her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed many summers at the cottage in Grand Beach before she and her husband moved to Belair, MB. Gunhild loved country living and all the independence it afforded her. She enjoyed having pets around, and using the computer to stay in touch with her heritage. She maintained a variety of artistic hobbies including crafts, gardening, and a great love of painting. She will always be remembered for her delicious cooking, and big Christmas celebrations. She also maintained several memberships including the Victoria Beach Seniors Scene and at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre in Winnipeg. A special thank you to the Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare Manitoba, and the caring support of the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Program. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 15 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gunhild's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. Gunhild's presence at our Coffee Club nights was always an inspiration. She brought such a sense of humor and sense of possibilities and new ideas to our club. We so enjoyed Gunhild' and she'll always be remembered by those who got to know her. Our thoughts are with your family. You have your mother's strong Swedish roots that will give you strength at this time. - Posted by: Swedish Cultural Association (fellow Swedes ) on: Oct 16, 2014

Gunhild and I have been friends for such a long time. We attended many art workshops together, in fact it was Gunhild who got me to my first workshop. I was hooked! We attended many, many workshops after that...and I always enjoyed my time with her. There were many evenings I visited her at her home and we sat and talked all night. I couldn't believe the sun was coming up and we were still talking. We never talked about people there were too many other worldly things to occupy our minds. She had such a beautiful smile, that little uplift in the corner of her mouth....so darned cute. She was a great friend, I loved her and will miss her forever. There will never be another Gunhild, she was one of a kind for sure. Lisa, George and family thank you from my heart for making her final weeks of life much more tolerable in your home. She would have hated palliative care in a hospital setting. That is real love for your Mom! - Posted by: Lorraine Neal (Long time friend) on: Oct 13, 2014
