GLORIA MAY WOOD Peacefully on October 13, 2014, Gloria May Wood passed away at the McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre in McCreary, MB at the age of 94 years. We lost a lovely lady. Glo was born on August 9, 1920 in Hull, England. She married William (Bill) Wood and they had a daughter Anne. In 1957, the family emigrated to Canada choosing Winnipeg as their home. Things weren't always easy, but Mum always managed to make the best of any situation by never complaining, just carrying on. Her family was her whole world. Glo and her family moved often with Bill's work. She always managed to find new friends and a place to volunteer. The highlight of her year was spring break which she and Bill for many years spent with their grandchildren. She was a strong, hardworking woman who was always loving and giving. She will be missed. Glo was predeceased by her husband Bill, one brother and two sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish many fond memories; her daughter Anne (Arnold) Jenks, her granddaughters Karen, Suzanne and Lorraine (Patrick), her great- grandchildren Makenna, Kaylee, Ashley, Tayler, Kurtis, Savannah, Scott and Sammi Jo and her great-great-grandson Declan, as well as her special friends Janet, Max and family. Thank you to all of the home care workers who helped Glo keep the independence she so needed while in the Trois Villas, to the doctors and staff of the Ste. Rose Hospital and of the McCreary/Alonsa Personal Care Home who took such good care of Mum in her final months. Your kindness and caring is awesome. In accordance with Glo's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Bye Granny Glo We love you Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, Ste. Rose Chapel in care of arrangements, 204-447-2444, www.sneathstrilchuk.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We celebrated our first Christmas without you and as hard as it was we remembered to share your memories and the wine. We told Declan stories about his GREAT GREAT Granny Glo and he smiled and giggled. He knows he has special angels watching over him. He will know you waited for him. We shared your stories and your memories and smiles. Although it was hard I know you are in a better place free of pain, your walker, and are with grandad again. I know you missed him. I miss you. - Posted by: Karen Jenks (Grand daughter) on: Dec 30, 2014

  • Gloria was kind, generous and loved by the Austin family. She shared many lovely stories of growing up in Hull and her experiences during war time. We missed her when she moved to the "country" and will miss her even more now. Much love and always remembered. - Posted by: Austin Family (Friends) on: Oct 21, 2014
