HAROLD BENNETT Peacefully, on October 17, 2014, Harold Bennett, passed away at the age of 78, with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Doreen of 51 years; son Terry (Janet); daughter Candace; grandchildren Seanna (Donovan), Reece, Mandy, Jasmine, and Lauren; great-grandchildren Brody and Bentley who he adored; bother Gerald (Al); sister Audrey (Les); sisters-in-law Vernie and Edna; brother-in-law Delmer. He was predeceased by his parents Martha and Walter Bennett; brothers Billy, George, and John; sisters Elizabeth and Mildred; brother-in-law Monty. Dad was born on Matheson Island on February 29, 1936. He worked on Lake Winnipeg and on the Mackenzie River as Deckhand, Mate and Captain. In his later years he was a commercial fisherman and trapper which he always enjoyed. He was very community minded as a member of many boards such as, Mayor of Matheson Island, Director on the Matheson Island Co-op, Harbour Authority and the school board. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Betel Home with special thanks to Cheryl and Jack. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at the Matheson Island Community Hall, at 2:00 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
