GRACE CARLSON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Grace Carlson at 83 years of age. Grace Wilson was born on January 16, 1931 in the small community of Chatfield, Manitoba to Norman (Red) Wilson and Blanche Johnson, the second oldest of 10 children. Grace had an adventurous streak and at 15, she moved with her older sister, Dorothy to the exciting city of Winnipeg where she got her first job as a seamstress at a garment factory which she really enjoyed and part-time in the evenings at a bowling alley. She met and married Victor Carlson in 1952, who was in the trucking industry and settled in the area of Brookland / Weston for over 30 years and in 1990 retired to Winnipeg Beach. Along with raising four children, Wendy, Cindy, Wayne and Rob, she was also employed at Eaton's and The Bay and always busy with her hobbies and her family. After retirement, she loved spending time with her family and friends at their cottage in Winnipeg Beach and enjoyed many hours tending her garden. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Victor and son, Wayne. She is survived by her sisters, Darlene and Marie; children, Wendy (Steve), Cindy (Wayne), Robert (Bonnie); grandchildren, Melissa, Mark, Mike, Kaitlin, Kristin, Victor, Cassandra, Matthew, Jack, and great-grandchild, Nya. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for their excellent care and kindness over the years. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue., Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Dear Wendy and family. It wasn't until today at the Fred Douglas Lodge Remembering Friends ceremony that I realized your darling Mother Grace recently passed away. My sister Connie had just mentioned you and how we admired your dedication to your Mother. We are so sorry for your loss, and wish you and your family well. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, mother-in-law and grandmother. You will miss her and I know it's a very difficult time you are going through as my mother, Thelma Peterson, passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge within the past year. Your mom was so fortunate to have had her family visit with her so frequently. My deepest sympathy to you.
