WILLIAM BABIUK Peacefully on October 18, 2014, one month before his 95th birthday, our beloved father, grandfather, and uncle, left us to join his wife Mary. He is survived by his daughter Pat (Brian), son Darren, and his three grandchildren, Courtney, Brittany and Chad as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, parents Spiridon and Petrunia, as well as brothers Spiridon, Mike, Maurice, and sisters Anne, Alex, Rose, and Mary. Dad was born in Rhein, Saskatchewan and left the farm to work in the Toronto / Sudbury area with his brothers. He married Mary, the love of his life, on August 21, 1945 and they settled in Winnipeg where he started and ran Babiuk Roofing for over 30 years. A jack of all trades and master of many Dad loved building and working on his many "projects" as well as helping others with theirs. Much of his time was spent at the Gull Lake family cottage which he referred to as heaven on earth. You could always find Gigi cheering on his grandkids at their games, fishing or playing cards and bingo at the senior centers in East St. Paul and Stead. Dad had spent the last 15 years in Waterloo, Ontario and summered at Gull Lake. A celebration of life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. A private interment will be held later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Condolences on the loss of your father. From the Ireland family - Posted by: Toni (Ireland) Raugust (family friends ) on: Nov 12, 2014

  • Our sympathy at the loss of a gentle, warm and compassionate man. I remember with fondness your father's visits to my grandparents and father at the lake. He was a part of the community and always will be. - Posted by: Smyrski Family () on: Oct 27, 2014

  • Uncle Bill. It is very good for me to have known him and I will remember him as a kind and peaceful person with a good heart. (His mother Petrunia must have been quite a good mother as she seemed to raise up some very nice children.) I recall a time when I was asking Uncle Bill about his time growing up on the farm. He told me he remembered looking up from the farmhouse and seeing the first automobile they ever saw come driving down the road! The last I spoke with him (quite a few years ago) he told me the house he and my mom grew up in was abandoned, but still standing (in Rhein). I remember Pat and Darren visiting us when we were all children and we had quite a time playing. Our thoughts go out to them at this time. - Posted by: Lance Mason (Nephew) on: Oct 24, 2014

  • My dear Uncle Bill, the lake is heaven on earth and you will be missed in the coming years but I was privileged to have spent so many years there with you and your family. I especially loved the last few years that we had time for fishing, cards, bingo and watching the birds and chipmunks. I hope you are dancing with Aunty Mary as you did in the olden days. Love you and miss you already. Your family is in my prayer. - Posted by: Rosemarie Cook (Family friend) on: Oct 24, 2014
