LORNA C. MADILL July 7, 1927 - October 15, 2014 It is with sadness and much love we announce the peaceful passing of our sister, aunt and dear friend Lorna, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Lorna was predeceased by her husband Steve, sisters Ethel Poole and Frances Davison, as well as her parents, Loren and Elizabeth Madill. She leaves behind her sisters Lilyan Lacey and Phyllis Lynch, as well as many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a good friend, Brenda Davis. Lorna began her career as a teacher in rural Manitoba and worked in the Winnipeg School Division in the late 1950's. She retired from teaching while at Kildonan East Collegiate. "Auntie Noni" loved to travel and during retirement, spent many winters in Arizona, Texas and Louisiana. In compliance with Lorna's wishes no formal Service will be held and a private family interment will be held at a later date in Souris, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Vidiya, thank you again for being such a good friend to our aunt Lorna. We are thankful for the wonderful life she had, and the kind, gentle, caring person she was. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204-897-4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Miss Madill was my favourite high school teacher...home room/typing. She was wonderfully kind. When she appeared each morning in class she was always perfectly groomed with a smile to greet the classroom. It was nice to see that she had a good life with a lot of love. She deserved nothing less. - Posted by: Angela Martin (Student at River East Collegiate) on: Jan 11, 2023

  • Lil, Jodi, Rhonda, I saw the obituary of Auntie Nonie in October, and time has escaped me. I wanted to express my sympathies to the family for your loss of your dear Auntie Nonie. I went down memory lane with all the members of your family (and mine, as they were together often when you lived in St. Pierre) I have not spoken to any of you in years, but I have fond memories, of Lil, Phyllis, Nonie (the MaDill sisters) and your Grand-parents. Rhonda, I remember our visiting Auntie Nonie in her apartment near Polo Park, I thought wow this is pretty neat, living in a nice apartment and a pool to boot. I remember her long hair, and how sophisticated she looked. Hugs go out to all of you. Sam and Irene will be glad to welcome her to their table at the "Pearly Gates " I can see them all enjoying food, and good time. I send my love, Murielle - Posted by: Murielle Bérard (Family friend) on: Dec 11, 2014

  • Aunt Lorna lived a long ways away during my life. She did however, leave a lasting impression. She was always classy, knowledgeable and well travelled. I used to love the elegance with which she would smoke her cigarettes with her sleek black cigarette holder, her beautifully shaped and coloured nails making her seem sophisticated in a movie star kind of way. I remember staying with her in her Winnipeg apartment and thinking ---- Wow!! This is the life! A small town Saskatchewan girl could barely take this in. We were fortunate to have Aunt Lorna stop to visit us when we were in Saskatchewan and Alberta. My last visit with Aunt Lorna was in July of 2014 when my sister Patti, my cousin Leanna and Aunt Phyl(Lorna's youngest sister) went to celebrate the life of Aunt Fran, another of Lorna's sisters. It was great to see her. She may not have known exactly who we were but she did know we loved her. I want to thank my cousin Rhonda for all that she did for Aunt Lorna. It is not easy to be making decisions and managing the lives and needs of others while at the same time managing your own. Your work has been appreciated. To Aunt Lorna, I acknowledge your passing and send you love. Be with Ethel and Fran and check in on the ones still on this earth from time to time. • Miss Madill was my teacher for four years and I've always remembered her with fondness. She was a no-nonsense lady but always fair with a good sense of humour that she would bring out like a present. I'm sure you'll miss her greatly. - Posted by: Michele Gillies Murphy (Student - River East Collegiate 1969-1972) on: Oct 26, 2014

  • I had Ms. Madill as a typing teacher, when I attended Kildonan East in the 70's. What I remember about her, was that she was a very classy lady. Her hair, clothing and make up was always so nice. I remembered thinking that when I got to be her age, I would like to be like her! I was glad to hear that she lived a full and adventurous life. - Posted by: Lynn Menzies (Student) on: Oct 25, 2014
