Only today I came to know that my dear FR. GUY LAVALLEE, OMI, left this world to his eternal home. I feel so sad. We were very good friends from 2002 onwards. He was India for a year. During this time he attended my one week residential Yoga Christian Meditation Retreat (Yoga Dhyana Sadhana) in Bangalore at Ashrivanam Benedictine Monastery. I came to Canada through his support and encouragements in 2003. He was so loving and understanding. Last year he came to Ottawa and we had meals together in the OMI provincial house. Last October 5 he told me about his illness and again on 8th I talked to him. After this I did not get him over the phone. On October 26th again I called him but the answering machine was on. I thought he might be taking rest. Today I called to his personal number but it went to the answering machine. Then I called the house and I came to know about his eternal departure. Let the Heavenly Father grant him eternal rest and joy in HIS presence. - Posted by: Devaprasad Swami (My Best friend) on: Nov 03, 2014

We learned of Fr. Guy's passing while on vacation a few days ago...it was a moment we will remember as we sat silently and pondered this man of God's life. He was always interested in our own lives as we visited over the years. He was always interested in how we felt about our own history and he knew well where our families came from and how important it was for us to be proud of our ancestry. He will be greatly missed but we are happy for him as he has moved on to the great Kingdom of Heaven where we look forward to seeing him one day again. Miigwech Fr. Guy for your caring and all your love! Our condolences and prayers to his family from the Phillips clan from Hollow Water First Nation. - Posted by: Darrell & Charlene Phillips (Friends) on: Nov 01, 2014

Tannishi Kiya'wow! It is with heartfelt sorrow that we have lost a magnetic man of the cloth! For many years I visited with Father Lavallee at Batoche, attended Mass and listened to him speak graciously at the Batoche Cemetery in remembrance of the unknown graves and Metis Soldiers who sacrificed their lives so that we can live in peace in Canada. We have lost a piece of Metis History and an advocate for Metis Peoples. On behalf of the Metis in British Columbia we relay our condolences. RIP Father. Father Guy’s passage is a sad day for many of us and a huge loss. He lead the procession from the Back to Batoche Festival grounds to the cemetery at Batoche for twenty-two years on the Sunday, and last day, of the festival. I will remember his wisdom and friendship and I will forever have the image of him leading the procession in my mind when I think of him. - Posted by: Karon Shmon (friend) on: Oct 28, 2014

I knew and became friends with Father Guy through my work with the Gabriel Dumont Institute in Saskatoon. I'll miss his passion to the Metis cause and his his sense of humour. Rest in peace Pere Guy. - Posted by: Darren Prefontaine (Friend) on: Oct 28, 2014

My very deepest sympathies to the family on Guy's passing. I have not seen Guy for many years. In St. Laurent Guy helped me on my journey of finding my ancestry. We are related though our Great Great Grandmother. Guy will be missed. - Posted by: Leigh Wilkins (Relative) on: Oct 27, 2014

Father Guy was a first cousin to my Mom, Marie Antoinette Lavallee, and Uncle Cyrille Bonaparte Lavallee. Their mother and Guy's mother were sisters who married brothers. Father Guy visited our home after my Mom's passing and enjoyed a meal of Finnish moika and fresh pickerel (he always enjoyed a good feed). My condolences to his remaining family (sister Anna who is my godmother) and his many nieces and nephews. - Posted by: Darlene Slomke (second cousin) on: Oct 27, 2014
