MARGARET THOMAS It is with deep sadness, but heartfelt appreciation for a life lived with warmth and kindness, grace and dignity, that the family of Margaret Thomas announces her peaceful passing the evening of October 24, 2014. Among those who will miss her most are her daughters and sons-in-law: Lori (John Bandor) of Brandon; Joanne (John Zahl) of Albuquerque; and son, Ken, of Winnipeg, as well as grandchildren: Jen, Justin, Riley and many special nieces, nephews and "adopted" son Edwin Rynveld and family of the Netherlands. Her beloved dog, Georgia, also misses her desperately. Born to Jack and Fanny (Witherspoon) McLaren at Carberry, Manitoba in August 1937, Margaret Elizabeth Jean was the fourth of their five children. Marg moved to Winnipeg in 1956 where she worked for the Accounting Department of the Hudson's Bay Company, which - given her aversion to math - was a source of great amusement for those who knew her. It was in Winnipeg that she met, and later married, Arnold Thomas. They were married from October 1958 until Arnie's death in September of this year. While raising their children, Marg went to work for the St. Boniface and the Louis Riel School Divisions for a number of years, where she loved and was loved by her many speech and language students. Marg was a great lover of books - all kinds - and inspired those around her to read. A gentle soul, a warm heart, a beautiful smile, always generous with what she had, Marg will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff of 5S at the Health Sciences Centre Women's Hospital. Services will be held on October 29, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, Carberry, with interment to take place at Carberry Plains Cemetery. Fellowship and refreshments will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 23 Main Street, Carberry. As well, a Celebration of Life for Marg and Arnie will be held Thursday, October 30 at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Canada; Marion School, 619 Des Meurons Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2H 2R1 (please indicate "Library" on your donation) or to a charity of your choice. White's Funeral Home, Neepawa, in charge of arrangements (204-476-2848).

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)
I remember going out to the farm (North Place) in Carberry and playing in the house. I had such great memories of Uncle Arnold in the garden and Auntie Marg in the kitchen. My condolences to the family xo - Posted by: Kristen Heintz (McLaren) (Great Niece) on: Oct 29, 2014
Wow! I have so many memories of your mom. I remember mostly summer trips to the farm at Carberry where we would spend the days horsing around. Your mom and dad were great hosts. Your dad with his teasing ways and your mom was just the sweetest person. Wrap yourselves in the wonderful memories. We shall never forget them! Hugs to you all. - Posted by: Valdine Wheeler (family friend) on: Oct 28, 2014
Auntie Marg was a very special person in my life and in the lives of many people who knew her. Auntie Marg was a big part of my childhood and had an amazing way of making you always feel welcome and special. She always had a smile and time to visit with you. Her kindness will always be remembered. Whatever life's challenges were she met them with dignity, grace, her sense of humor and laughter. To Lori, Joanne and Kenny she left her wonderful legacy to the world in her children. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Barbara Ciecko (McLaren) (Niece) on: Oct 27, 2014
