ARTHUR CLINTON DECKER March 23, 1942 October 23, 2014 It is with profound disbelief and sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of Arthur Clinton (Clint) Decker, in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2014, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 72 years. Left to forever cherish Clint's memory are his mother, Hilda; brothers Glen (Sylvia) and Doug; nieces and nephews Jennifer, Heidi (Michel), Sara (Alex), Adam (Jaimi), Matthew (Tracie), Amanda (Justus); as well as by numerous cousins and family friends. The family would also like to give special mention to Rita. Clint was predeceased by his father, Cec Decker. While Clint had an intellectual disability with its attendant limitations, he worked hard at everything he did. Clint tried to please, and never disappointed anyone. He grew up in Deer Lodge, attending school at a time when there were few supports for children with his disability. As a result, Clint kept falling behind and these were difficult years for him, but as he did throughout his life, Clint persevered, never missing a single day of school, and he acquired impressive basic skills. Linwood School principal Mr. Wallace is fondly remembered for his watchful support. Clint always liked to stay busy, and in October, 1962, he began working at ARC Industries, which later became Versatech, and, later still, ImagineAbility. When he turned 65, Clint actually retired for a few days, but he soon became bored and went back to work, a testament to the wonderful, supportive people who operate ImagineAbility and to the special community of persons who work there. Every year, his favourite event was the annual ImagineAbility Dinner and Dance. When Clint wasn't at work, he still typically kept busy, helping out at home in any way he could. Even when Clint was "relaxing", he could be found painstakingly doing thousand-piece jigsaw puzzles and other projects, completing countless word-search books, and reading novels, a hobby he took up only recently. He also enjoyed watching hockey on TV. Clint could always count on the support, love and devotion of his parents, who took him on Florida vacations and to points across Canada, and who always made sure Clint got to his many activities, including swimming and bowling. He also liked watching Dad curl, and when golf clubs still allowed it, he was a darned fine caddy. Clint was a quiet, gentle soul, and while he is no longer with us physically, his family will carry his spirit with us forever. Clint is loved. On Friday, October 31, 2014, a luncheon to honour the memory of Clinton Decker will be held at 10:30 a.m. in ImagineAbility, 500 Madison Street, Winnipeg, MB, near Polo Park Shopping Centre. The family would like to thank the wonderful paramedics who tried so hard to bring Clint back to us. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that interested persons instead offer support in Clint's name to the Versatech Charitable Foundation and their work for people with intellectual disabilities. I was saddened to see that Clint had passed. He was my step-cousin. My grandmother, Margaret Hurst, married his grandfather, Alfred Hurst. I grew up around Aunt Hilda, Uncle Cec, Clint and Doug and many fond memories. The best memory is of my grandfather and Clint watching hockey and the shouts of excitement used to startle me until I understood what they were cheering for! They would get so much enjoyment out of the game and each other. My grandpa had a special place in his heart for Clint. I haven't seen anyone since I left over 40 years ago but still have so many fond memories of family gatherings. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. - Posted by: Patti Russell (Johnson) (step-cousin) on: Nov 03, 2014

We are very sorry to hear of Clint's passing. Our family always enjoyed watching Clint and our own son Donald Jr at the Blue and Gold Bowling league. It was easy to tell they enjoyed that time very much. Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Donald Bean Sr.and Family (Friends) on: Nov 01, 2014

It is hard to believe that Clint is no longer with us. Although he is no longer here physically, I know that myself and my family, and those who knew and loved Clint, will cherish the lesson he taught us all forever. Clint taught us that no matter what card life has dealt you, you can still find joy and happiness in the things you love. It is foolish for anyone to think that just because someone has an intellectual disability, they cannot accomplish anything. I would say that Clint accomplished so much more in his life than some may have expected, and he overcame many challenges. I am proud to call Clint my uncle. I will leave off with the poem "Picture Puzzle Piece," as it is quite fitting to Clint. One picture puzzle piece Lyin' on the sidewalk, One picture puzzle piece Soakin' in the rain. It might be a button of blue On the coat of the woman Who lived in a shoe. It might be a magical bean, Or a fold in the red Velvet robe of a queen. It might be the one little bite Of the apple her stepmother Gave to Snow White. It might be the veil of a bride Or a bottle with some evil genie inside. It might be a small tuft of hair On the big bouncy belly Of Bobo the Bear. It might be a bit of the cloak Of the Witch of the West As she melted to smoke. It might be a shadowy trace Of a tear that runs down an angel's face. Nothing has more possibilities Than one old wet picture puzzle piece. - Shel Silverstein - Posted by: Amanda Decker (Niece) on: Oct 30, 2014

My sincere condolences to Aunt Hilda, my cousins Glenn and Doug and their families, on the loss of Clint. Clint spent a week at the farm one Summer while his parents were overseas. Like the rest of us, we all had our chores to do. Clint was asked to remove the grass from the raspberry patch. As usual, he did his job to perfection. There was not one blade left when he was done. I could not believe that anyone had that kind of patience. We knew from a very early age that Clint was a little different. We observed how Uncle Cecil and his family treated him with love, respect, and dignity, and how he was always included in all that they did. I am very grateful to uncle Cecil and his family for teaching us such a valuable life lesson. Thank you, Cousin Den - Posted by: Dennis Decker (First cousin) on: Oct 29, 2014
