PETER THIESSEN With sorrow and release, we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Thiessen. With a caring friend beside him, holding his hand, he closed his eyes and gently slipped away on October 27, 2014 at the age of 89 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 62 years, Helga; his nephew Anatolij; niece Natalya and her children Victor and Oxana in Russia; sister-in-law Freya Hughes and her children Michael and Jeanette in Florida; cousin Ruth and her children Jûrgen and Peter in Germany as well as close friends and neighbours. Peter was born in the western Ukraine on June 1, 1925. He served as a young soldier in the Second World War. After the war he met a pretty fraulein, Helga, in Germany, where they were married on December 21, 1951 and from there moved to Winnipeg. For over 30 years until he retired Peter was a loyal employee at Cold Stream Industries. Over time he and Helga travelled together to Germany, Florida and Vancouver for many family visits. They built a cozy home which Peter proudly and meticulously upgraded and maintained until his passing. A warm thanks to all his home care workers who brought a ray of sunshine and comfort to Peter in his final months. A special thanks to his dear neighbours Peggy, Trellis, Ben and Erika, as well as his close friends Elizabeth and Howard for all their support. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 at Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin Street, with visitation half hour prior. Interment Brookside Cemetery.
