GERHARD HEINZ FUNKE September 17, 1916 - October 29, 2014 On Wednesday, October 29, 2014 Henry Funke passed away peacefully at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home at 98 years of age. He is survived by his loving wife, Margot, stepdaughter Barbara Lehmann (Ed), grandchildren Michelle Melanson, Mike Stelter and great-grandchildren Ryan, Joshua, Colton and Jacob. Henry was predeceased by one son in Germany and wife Erna in 1991. Henry was born on September 17, 1916 in Berlin, where he was raised, completed his education, and worked as a fur and clothing designer, producing many fashion shows. The war and political circumstances then led to a career change into the industrial engineering field. In 1953 Henry immigrated to Canada attending university in Montreal and in Winnipeg. He was employed for many years by Dominion Bridge as Industrial Engineer, eventually retiring from there. Being ambitious and energetic, he continued working as a consultant for Versatile. It was at that time he met and married Margot. They were blessed with 20 happy years together, a special circle of friends from Fred Douglas Place, as well as from the German Society and all their old time friends and family. Travelling was a major part of their life, visiting Mexico, Europe, and Hawaii. Henry was also involved in many organizations. He was a member of the Lodge in Germany and continued in Canada as a member for over 50 years at Khartum Unit 101, Scottish Rite and Three Pillars Lodge No. 169. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, Winnipeg, MB. The family extends sincere thanks to the Staff on 2 North at Donwood Manor for their exceptional care, with special thanks to nurse Lorraine.
