ROBERT (BOB ) WOOD With great sadness we announce the death of Robert (Bob) Wood on October 29, 2014. There will no longer be the twinkle in his eye nor the smile on his lips. He leaves to mourn, son Murray (Susie) and granddaughter Anna of North Vancouver, daughter Melanie (David) of Winnipeg and his beloved companion of later years, Joyce Lewis. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Rosalie. Bob was born in Saskatoon, had a brief stint with the army at the end of the Second World War and then started work with CP Rail. Bob and Rosalie met while he was an apprentice at Alyth yards in Calgary and they were married in 1950. Work took Bob and Rosalie to Hardisty, Alberta for 17 years. Murray and Melanie were born there and the family enjoyed small town life until Bob was transferred to Winnipeg in 1967. Bob spent his entire work career with CP Rail. Since leaving work at the Winnipeg Diesel shop, located near Weston Shops, Bob enjoyed almost 30 years of retirement. Both Bob and Rosalie were active with the United Church, first in Hardisty, then in Winnipeg at Crestview United and finally at Knox United Church in downtown Winnipeg. Bob and Rosalie were very involved with square dancing and round dancing events. They made several trips in Canada and the U.S. to participate in dance activities. The Masons were a significant part of Bob's Life. In 1950, he was initiated into the Comet #50 Lodge (now merged with the Harmony Lodge #75 in Sedgewick, Alberta) and later he joined the St. John's Lodge in Winnipeg. Bob received a 60 year jewel and returned to Sedgewick to celebrate the Harmony Lodge Centennial. In later years, while a resident of Fred Douglas Place, Bob met Joyce who became his new partner in life. They enjoyed travelling, especially several cruises, and attending plays and concerts together. Bob was a special individual who with his ever present good nature enriched the lives of all who met him. Even Rosalie's long term battle with Alzheimer's and his own struggles for 30 years with a meningioma did not dampen his spirits. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. The family wishes to extend many thanks to the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for all their care and compassion. If friends so desire, a contribution can be made to Knox United Church at 400 Edmonton Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2M2.
