PATTI MARIE DOUCET (nee SCHWANKE) On November 10, 2014 at the age of 48 the world lost a strong, caring, loyal and loving person. After a brief but hard fought and courageous battle, Patti lost her third encounter with breast cancer. She beat this terrible disease twice, but unfortunately the third was too much to overcome. Patti leaves behind her devoted husband Kirk, her son Dale, and daughter Paige. She also leaves behind her father Herb and sisters Cathy (Bill), Cheryl (Kent) and Teresa (Dan) and nephews Matthew, Derek and Tamir and niece Shirelle. She was predeceased by her mother Darlene. We would like to thank the staff of Health Sciences Centre unit GH4 for the amazing care while Patti was with them. A celebration of Patti's life will take place on Sunday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. All are invited to attend and share their favourite memories of Patti. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Care Manitoba. Patti, I hadn't seen you in a year, when you came to Hazelridge to watch your daughter play against me in 2013. You were always a great team player, and a great defensive player in our ringette games. As the goalie, I can say that you were truly one of the best defenceman I have had the pleasure to have play in front of me. You were also a warm and wonderful person too. My heart goes out to your family on this tremendous loss. - Posted by: Jill Bemi (Teammate) on: Dec 02, 2014

I worked with Patti only by phone, but I have to tell you how much I enjoyed her calls. She always brightened my day. She was always so upbeat and happy. It was a pleasure knowing her, even if it was just by phone. She was an amazing person. We need more people like Patti in this world. I can imagine how much she is making the others that passed before her laugh in heaven. They are very lucky to have her. We will all miss her very much and my deepest sympathy goes out to everyone who knew and loved her. - Posted by: Shelley Cockburn (Work Friend from London Ontario (London Life Insuarance Company)) on: Nov 14, 2014

Dear Kirk and family, You do not know me, however you know my sister Bobbi, her husband Geoff, and their son, Kyle. I recently became aware of Patti's third bout with a terrible, terrible disease and, based on Bobbi's heartfelt sadness in reaction to the news, I knew Patti was a lovely and wonderful gift to the lives of those around her. Bobbi and Geoff spoke very fondly of Patti, and of you, Kirk! She said you were both very kind to her, Geoff, and Kyle. On behalf of my own husband and sons, I am offering my deepest sympathies to you and your children for your sad loss! I am so, so sorry! I have no doubt that your dearest angel is now at peace and watching over all of you! I wish you and your family great strength as you attempt to cope with the absence of this beautiful woman in your lives! Sincerely, Clara - Posted by: Clara Baricz (Sister to Bobbi, who was a friend and neighbour to Patti and Kirk) on: Nov 14, 2014

The Garet family is so sorry for your loss and our thoughts are with you. Patti was a good friend to our family - fun, caring and watchful :) She treated us all like little sisters when we travelled the world together. In addition to a cherished mom, daughter, sister and aunt...Patti was an athlete, a digger and a respected team mate. She was positive and full of energy. Many will miss her strength and determination. We will think of her often. - Angela, Lori, Lindsay, Gail and Bob Garet - Posted by: Angela Garet (Friend) on: Nov 14, 2014
