IRENE RUTH LEE With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Irene Ruth Lee on November 13, 2014 at Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 83. Mom was born near Outlook, SK on November 16, 1930, the 3rd daughter of Georg Alvin' and Gellen Sjovold. In 1937 the family moved to Manitoba. Mom married the love of her life, Lloyd Francis Lee on July 1, 1950. They moved to Winnipeg where they resided until 1988 when they built their retirement home at Twin Lakes Beach. Mom worked for J. Kerr Brown Drugs for several years before moving to St. James in 1964. She then worked at the Metro Drugs in the Courts of St. James until 1980. Mom and Dad loved to travel and saw most of Canada, Hawaii, and many other US states. After Dad retired in 1989, they started going to Apache Junction AZ for the winters. They spent many happy years living at the lake in the summer and being snowbirds for the winter. Mom and Dad enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage. After Dad died in 2000, Mom was a lost soul and only today was she made whole again. Mom was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church; for a few years she was a member at Deer Lodge Senior Centre and she was very proud to be an honorary Board member for the Daniel Lee Dorward Compassionate Fund for Sick Kids. Mom was always happiest when she was with her family. She taught her granddaughters about pine floats and how to play cards and along with Dad, taught her grandsons to fish. One of the highlights of her life was her surprise trip to Las Vegas to celebrate her 75th birthday. Mom was a real fighter she wouldn't give in to anything or anyone. This was a tribute to her, but often a challenge to her children! Mom is greatly missed by her daughter Donna (Steve) Friesen of Winnipeg and son Gary (Joan) Lee of St. Paul AB, grandson Darren Dorward, granddaughters Heather Lee, Tammy (Ryan) Denomme, and Dana (Paul) Augst, great-granddaughters Mackenzie Denomme, Brooke and Kalynn Augst. She is also survived by her sisters Viola Karton and Esther (Gordon) Reid, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Awaiting her arrival in heaven are her husband Lloyd Lee, grandson Daniel Lee Dorward, sister Juanita Anderson, brothers-in-law Charles Karton and Willard Anderson, sisters-in-law Ida and Ina Lee and Esme Sudeyko, nieces Elizabeth Neufeld and Yvonne Reilly, nephews Bryan and Keith Lee, great-nephew Steven Reilly and great-niece Bryn Lee. She was also predeceased by both her and Dad's parents. A celebration of Mom's life will take place on Tuesday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Road. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens after a time of fellowship. Pallbearers will be her granddaughters' husbands Paul Augst and Ryan Denomme, and nephews Alvin and Murray Karton, Grant Reid and Terry Lee. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Daniel Lee Dorward Compassionate Fund for Sick Kids. Cheques should be payable to Health Sciences Centre in trust and mailed to Dorward Compassionate Fund, 263-3336 Portage Ave, Winnipeg MB R3K 2B9. The family are grateful to the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge who loved and cared for her over the past few months and to everyone who visited her and supported us. Rest in peace Mom. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Our condolences to the Lee family. Your Mom & Dad lived behind my parents' (Kathy & Ralph Greening) cottage at Twin Lakes. There are many memories of both your Mom & Dad at the beach. They were both very kind and always ready for a chitchat. The MacKenzie Bay September Long Weekend Family Days was always a special time for all the families. Your Mom & Dad were instrumental in the success of these weekends. I remember dancing in your Mom & Dad's garage until late at night. Your Mom & Dad are together again and have much catching up to do. May each of you find peace in the wonderful memories of your Mom & Dad. I'm sure they are watching over all of you. - Posted by: Debbie & Bob Ledoux (Friend) on: Nov 15, 2014
