QUACH THAT June 21, 1912- November 8, 2014 Swiftly and peacefully on November 8, 2014 Quach That passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 102. She was born in Xiqiao, Guangdong, China in 1912 at a time of political upheaval when much of the countryside was stricken with poverty. At age four, she went to work for one of the wealthiest families in Hong Kong, whom she served for more than 20 years. During the second Sino-Japanese war, Quach That and her youngest sister moved to Vietnam. They eventually ran a successful business, and Quach That helped her sister raise six children. She immigrated with her family to Canada in 1979, after fleeing post-war Vietnam and spending time in a refugee camp in the Philippines. She did not speak English but her charming demeanor won over everyone who met her. She spent her time helping raise grandchildren and played Mah-jong with family and friends winning most games. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews spanning three generations and all the friends who had come to love her over her many years. Visitation 6:00 p.m. -10:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. Funeral Service 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Bardal Funeral Home.
