TADEUSZ ZIELINSKI 1925 - 2014 Ted, Dad, Dziadzia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 19, 2014, at Holy Family Home, at the age of 89 years. His wife Maria of 60 years predeceased him. Left to cherish his memory is his son Jerzy (Diane) and grandsons David (Tammy), Andrew (Sarah), Sean, Jeffrey (Jill), and Christopher; daughter Helen and granddaughter Jenessa; and son Greg (Anjanette) and granddaughter Melodie; and four great-grandchildren Charlee, Matthew, Elle and Rooney. Ted was born in Osowik, Poland on August 22, 1925, and spent his youth growing up on a farm with a fruit orchard. He was displaced to Germany during the Second World War, following which he moved to Wales and worked as a coal miner. In 1953, Dad met the love of his life, Maria, on Good Friday, and proposed to her the next day. Three months later that year on July 4 they were married in Rochdale, England. After the birth of their first son in 1954, they moved to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Shortly thereafter, Ted started work at Winnipeg Central Heat and graduated as a 3rd level power engineer. In 1966, Ted joined Manitoba Hydro where he proudly worked until his retirement. Dad was a man of strong will and enormous heart. Family and faith were the centre of his life. He was hard working and generous, always helping others who were less fortunate. Dad was a vital supporter of the Polish community including Holy Ghost Church, developing a huge network of friends. Ted was a member of the Polish Combatants, served on the board of Holy Ghost Credit Union for 18 years, and was a Grand Knight and Navigator, Fourth Degree, of the Knights of Columbus. Dad was devoted to Mom. They enjoyed dancing and attending social functions with their many close friends. Dad loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved gardening, with a particular fondness for planting and grafting apple trees, and tending his tomatoes. The family thanks the staff of Holy Family Home for the wonderful care during his stay. We will always remember the kindness, compassion and warmth showed to Dziadzia. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m., with Rosary at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue with an Oblate Father as celebrant. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate (operating as Holy Family Home) or to Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. We love you forever Dziadzia. "Wherever I will be, I will be with you all." CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Hello. Please accept our belated condolences on the passing of your parents Maria and Tadeusz. We had the pleasure of their visit in Ottawa in 1991 for my wedding and then I visited them in 1998. Helen visited us in Ottawa a few years later with Jenessa. My aunt Maria who is now 89 was first cousins with your dad and lived in the next village in Poland. She had been wondering why she stopped hearing from them and was very sad to hear that they both passed. - Posted by: Elizabeth Galazka/Maria Kukulka (cousin) on: Aug 19, 2015

  • I found out about Tadeusz's passing via my cousins in Canada. He and his wife came to visit us here in the tiny town of Housatonic, Massachusetts, US. About 15 years ago. I believe he was my mother's cousin, her name was Joanna Biernacki (Zielinski), she passed away in 2001. I was told that I am named after Tadeusz. From what I read he was an honorable, respected, hard working man. I wish I had really known him while he was here! My condolences to the Zielinski family. Thaddeus E.
