CATHY LEONA ALEXANDER It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Cathy, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, niece, aunt and friend on November 23, 2014 in Winnipeg with her children and family by her side. She was known to all simply as Cat, she was born to Helen Yvonne and Gregory John Dorland on November 10, 1971 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and had recently celebrated her 43rd birthday. Cathy was raised in Winnipeg and later moved with her mom to Vancouver, BC before returning to Winnipeg and most recently to Sagkeeng. Cathy was blessed with three amazing children who are left to mourn her passing, Kenny (Chantel), Jade (Amanda) Nikita and her beautiful grandson Marcus, along with her siblings John "DC", Kenneth (Wanda), Tony, Phyllis, Greg Jr. (Vanessa) Sean (Pheona). Aside from both her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her cousin and close friend Michelle along with her niece Kaliana. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her including her extended family, her many cousins and numerous friends especially by her cousin and best friend Ashley Sinclair along with her four legged "daughter", her dog Cleopatra. Cathy was so excited to be chosen as the maid of honour for Ashley's upcoming wedding working tirelessly to plan for the special day. Sadly, she will now be laid to rest in the beautiful gown she chose to wear. Cathy was the most giving and selfless person one could know. With very little money in her pocket she travelled to Vancouver this past summer to attend the high school graduation of Jacob, the son of her late cousin Michelle. Always wanting to support her family in the best ways she could she has since taken Jacob under her wings by opening her home to him so he could experience a loving family environment. Recently she and Ashley organized a bingo to raise funds for a headstone for her mom, which further attests to her heart of gold. Through extensive education and training Cathy earned the skills necessary which enabled her to become the kitchen Manager at the George M. Guimond Personal Care Home a position she was extremely proud of. Cathy loved to cook and bake and had many hobbies, she especially loved to be with family and friends having fun and singing karaoke, her favourite song to sing was; "Brand new key" by Malanie. Cathy had such a genuine laugh that was both infectious and could be heard for miles. Though Cathy had gone through many hardships early in her life, she persevered with the desire to be the best mother possible to her three children, in this she succeeded greatly, her three children mirror her amazing and genuine personality. Cathy had an amazing smile that would crinkle her nose and squint her eyes, she could light up any room and was rarely seen without her trademark smile on her beautiful face, a trait that her grandson Marcus now carries. Wake service will take place commencing on Tuesday November 25, 2014 at St. Alexander R.C. Church Sagkeeng MB, followed by the funeral held on Friday, November 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Augustine Ezediniru officiating. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Cameron Dorland, Gage Alexander, Kenneth Alexander Jr., Jacob Nechiporenko, Bailey Alexander and Quinn Guimond. • Oh mother how it breaks my heart to see you gone. I always thought it would another 20-30 years before you left my side but I'm grateful You loved me, showed me love, you always made sure I got what I needed. You loved me up when I was down, you always managed to put a smile on everyone's face, we shared alot of fun times together. You walked with me till you got tired. I know you're still with me just like u said you would be, but mom you are a bright star in the sky now shining bright like you did down here. Aww it just makes me smile when I see you smile, so mom wrap your wings around your children and keep us safe and keep our hearts strong. I'll keep ur side of the bed open for you in case you want to come cuddle me and Cleo when I feel weak or sad. I know you'll be there for me, u always have. I love you mom, than anyone in this world. We shall see each other when I'm old and withered away, you'll still be young and I'll be ur old baby. lol Keep in touch With us. • Oh Cathy. I'd always thought I would bump into you again and I guess now that will never happen. I'll treasure my memories of stories and coffee and laughter with you. There you were, such a trooper about everything. You deserved a much easier life, and yet, there you were. Always there for everyone. Always finding the silver lining. Always looking on the bright side. Always trying your best. Always boosting people's spirits. There you were, always so perfectly present in every moment, and I've often been jealous of how you seemed to never waste a single second of your time with people. There you were , making the most of every visit and every occasion. I've often thought of that first time we met. There you were, so ridiculously bubbly. There you were, such a bright light. I can't believe it's gone out. - Posted by: Twyla (Friend) on: Nov 27, 2014
