Born: May 02, 1919
Date of Passing: Dec 03, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES PREFONTAINE It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Charles, on December 3, 2014. He has gone to join his angel, Armance, who passed away September 28, 2014. He leaves to mourn his daughters Anita (Albert Ruest), Rosalie (Yves Vézina), Charlaine (Ed Crebbs) and Louise (Ravi Abraham), seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several brothers, sisters and in-laws. Charles was born in Wood Mountain, SK, May 2, 1919 and later moved to St. François Xavier, MB. In 1941 he joined the R.C.A.F. 425 Alouette Squadron as an aviation mechanic. Before being shipped overseas he married Armance on May 2, 1942 in St. Victor, SK, a marriage that was to last 72 years. After the war they settled in Winnipeg where they raised their four daughters. Dad worked as an aviation mechanic for Trans Canada Airlines, later Air Canada, for over 30 years. In 1965 he was transferred to Montreal. Upon his retirement they returned to Manitoba to spend summers at Rock Lake and winters in Texas. Dad was very active in the Church choir and the Royal Canadian Legion where he held several executive positions. Charles was a jack of all trades. Through the years he remodeled his homes, built a boat and a camper trailer which were enjoyed for many summers at Big Whiteshell Lake. In retirement he built the cabin at Rock Lake with his son-in-law Albert. We all have special memories of times at the cabin. He loved camping, fishing, golfing, travelling, reading and music. His later years were spent wine making and woodworking. His friends and family enjoyed the wine and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed the beautiful wooden toys. The family would like to thank Dr. Gosselin, the nurses and aides of 4B, St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. A special thank you to Charles' brother Victor and his wife Dorothy for their unfailing love and devotion to Dad. Thanks Dad for all your love, encouragement and support through the years. We love you, we miss you. Give Mom a hug for us. If desired donations may be made in Charles' name to the CNIB, Donation Processing Centre, PO Box 8000 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 190, avenue de la Cathédrale on Thursday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. with Eulogy at 9:45 a.m. Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Dear Anita, Rosalie, Charlaine and Louise, My wife Georgette and I just received notice from Ron that your Dad Charles passed away in early December. We offer you all are most sincere condolences. We both remember your father's generous presence at Mom Bernice's funeral with you Anita in April 2013. We were surprised that he made the long journey in his weakened state of health. I remember him saying simply: "I had to come". Few words that seemed loaded with deep feelings of affection, loyalty and gratitude. A man of honour! We are thankful for these memories. May you all find peace throughout this Christmas season. Life goes on! And how lucky we have been to have our parents for so long! Mr. Prefontaine you were a quite soul of a man and I remember spending many days and evenings in your home on Chalmers Ave. They were the good old days.... less stress. To the girls I say you will miss your parents but will see them again some day in Heaven. I now live in BC and have been through many heartaches as you have. We hope to say you are all keeping well and your father and mother are now singing with a choir of Christmas Angels. God Bless Your Family as you go through this trying and difficult Time. - Posted by: Renate ( Lohr - Schjerning - Wolfe ) Gardy (Friend and former neighbour) on: Dec 06, 2014
