VIOLA BATSON It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife Marlene Viola known as Viola on Thursday, December 4, 2014. Viola was born July 24, 1944 in Port of Spain Trinidad at 56B Cascade Road. She was the daughter of Dorothy and James Nottingham. She married Anthony in 1965 and immigrated to Canada with babe in arms in 1967. She worked at the Health Sciences Centre and made many friends in her working career. She retired to be a homemaker in 1970 after the birth of her second child. She had three children Sonia (Jay), Dana (Steinar), Denise (Barry). Her grandchildren were the apple of her eyes Jayson, Stuart, Tore, Kai, Kieran and Alise and they all miss her dearly. Her surviving siblings are Cynthia, Annette, Angela, Gemma, St Clair, Edward, Allan, Donald, Lennox and Alfred. She was predeceased by Vilma and Alton, Dorothy and James. Her life focused on making her children happy, cooking her West Indian traditional meals, and helping out families in need .She loved music and her favorites were KD Lang 's Ave Maria, Josh Groban and Bocelli's music. She will be sorely missed by family, nephews, nieces, uncles and aunts. Remembrance services at Cropo on Tuesday, December 9 at 1:00 p m. Memorial service to be held in Trinidad in February, 2015 date pending.

VIOLA BATSON On Thursday, December 4, 2014 in the care of her loving family Viola passed away at her residence. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, December 09 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Viola's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. This obituary can also be viewed at www cropo.com.

There are many things I'll remember about my mom. How soft her hands were, How her eyes sparkled, How her smile lit up her entire face. I met Tony and Viola while working at Mc Phillips Superstore having just migrated to Canada and they embraced me from that day - I felt as part of the family. I can visualize Viola coming to shop with her big beautiful smile. They were both a source of comfort and inspiration to me. I was saddened to hear of Viola passing and to the family my deepest sympathy on the death of a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. I met Viola and Tony many, many, years ago at Wheelies Roller Rink on McPhillips, when I first moved to Winnipeg. They were so friendly, always looked forward to seeing them at the rink.
